Exactly. I don't know much about the guy but if he's better than Picard I'm pretty much sold and it makes it a quality signing.

I believe this is contract 49. We still are missing a depth forward...so expect that soon or a trade.
With this contract I have us at 47

G-Price, Budaj, Lawson, Delmas, Mayer (5)

D-Markov, Spacek, Subban, Gorges, Gill, Weber, Emelin, Woywitka, Henry, Stejskal, Diaz, Nash, St-Denis, Mitera (14)

F-Gomez, Cammy, Gio, Pac, Cole, Pleks, Desharnais, Eller, Darche, Engqvist, White, Moen, Kosty, Leblanc, Palushaj, Willsie, Conboy, Dumont, Nattinen, Bishop, Schultz, Masse, Lefebvre, Berger, Trotter, Blunden, Avtsin, Fortier (28)

Depth move, wonder if there is a Spacek deal out there for a team?

Or is Weber going to be a forward more than a Dman??

What the signing means; Depth d-man for Hamilton, call-up in case of an injury or two, saves the Habs a bloody second round pick.

What the signing doesn't mean; Gorges leaving (Woywitka's contract is one year, guys).

Good signing.

I don't think that's the case. If we have a significant injury on our blue line, Woywitka won't be able to fill the void left by someone like Markov or Subban out long term.

Bloody 2nd round pick is still in play.

A guy I work with is a Stars fan and he called him a "turnover machine and was our 7th D on a terrible defense. One of those guys you don't notice until he coughs up the puck at the worst time. Tries to play physical but easily gets out-muscled." He only played big minutes because Dallas had no choice because of injuries.

Sounds to me like he'll be spending the majority of his time in Hamilton but could be of service here and there due to injury. (also sounds like he was describing Alex Picard lol).

Are you people claiming this is the end of Gorges for real?

Please tell me you're joking.

Oh I'm not saying he'll be the first to get a call, maybe second or third. Enough blasphemy with Markov going down to injury. Take it back!

Yes news flash to everyone here who didn't get the memo, the Gorges comments are a joke.

Plus Jeff Woywitka is the next Andrei Markov anyways, he's only going to be replacing Markov

Not at all.. Woywitka was 3rd on their D for TOI at even strenght last year only behind Robidas and Daley.. not bad for a guy who play against 2nd line players....

Decent depth signing. Hamilton should start the season with a solid D group at the least.

If you haven't heard Marinaro's radio show, he has one weakness: Hockey.

Hard to tell since Picard benefited greatly by playing most of his games last year with Subban. Woywitka right around there though but I think he's an upgrade on Mara... maybe on Sopel too.

At best Woywitka is probably #8 behind Weber and may have Diaz and/or Mitera ahead of him on the depth chart.
