Put $15 on Rangers at 40/1

That line is so crazy. If they didn't add Richards they would be a cup contender. With him they are going to be tough team in the east.

I put $15 to win $600.

I love the fact the Devils have better odd than us... This means nothing though imo.

I'll bet on the Penguins during the playoff run, so if they win I still get cash. Win-win situation.

This numbers make no sense. How is that site calculating them? In my opinion we should have better odds than the Flyers and a lot of those other teams too.

On 5Dimes the other day the Rangers had the same odds as the Flames. And there wasn't a single team that was below them that I actually thought had a better team than them.

The only team that I always give a chance to is Carolina, and that's because I just always have that feeling that if they get in they can make noise.

Guess nobody really believes in us this year. Makes sense to me. From an outsiders perspective we've got a really young blue line, a team that has struggled to score for years, and a sniper coming off a terrible season in which he was injured for the millionth time.

Watching this team and young players every game last year though, we know the reality is slightly different from the perception.

The lines are based on the action.

Most fans are dumb and just bet on their own team without thinking about what kind of value they're getting for their bet. So that can skew the lines a bit.

35 to 1? I may have to wager $100 on that.

The list seems about right to me. Although, we should definitely be ahead of the Coyotes. Other than that... yup, about right.

These are the odds they take bets for. While US sports books typically get a 4.5% hold on most games, futures bets are different and the hold is generally much higher. In this case it's about 35%. So they can afford to be off a bit.

You can resell these bets too. If the Rangers are 40 to 1 right now, next June at say a 5th seed the odds will be more like 10 to 1. So your bet is worth 4 times more than the current market. Say you wagered $100, you'll have no problem unloading it to someone for $200-$300. Or if you believe in magic then hold out for the $4000 but you're rolling the dice

Are there any betting exchanges in the US? I wasn't aware of any.

Ah I take it you're referring to selling a ticket you get from a live book rather than an online bet you made. If you bet a future online I'd think it would be tough to sell.

I recon they have floating odds on a bet like that. Put like just 1000 USD on the Rangers and our odds would probably go down...

...in terms who is most likely to win the cup this season, us or NJD, I am like, I don't know. We have ridiculously little PO experience. We have flaws on the roster thats hard to correct (elite offensiveminded D, preferbly right shooting).

If you look even at a team like the Canes when they won, was it 3 years earlier -- they played in the finals! And it was somewhat of a nuts year. Buffalo were really really good. Buffalo knocked out a compltely outstanding team in Ottawa (that had Chara, Havlat, Hasek and so forth) in the first round. Than Buffalo at times against Carolina had 6 D's injured, only like McKee healthy of their top 6 or something in the neighborhood. I very very very much doubt Carolina stands a chance against either Ottawa or Buffalo that year in like the first round.

My point is just, its one thing to be able to put on a run -- but i) we need things to go our way to win the cup, like not just get out of the east, but beat the best of the west. I mean, if we put on a run thats up there with the best runs ever, what are the odds that we are in such shape that we can wear down and out work the best of the West? For us to win the cup, the odds are small. ii) Other teams just has better potential than us to go all the way.

I would like to give us much higher odds than NJD to get out of the East, but maybe if they can find some insane way to trap-fest their way through the PO's, they have a bigger chance after a long run to upset a team from the West?
