Concur. Well, Winchester or a defensive center like Madden or Ryan Johnson. Either is ok with me. I wouldn't wait on camp invites.
I wouldn't have a problem with that, but I do kinda salivate much more over a potential Winchester-White-Moen 4th line. Big guys making hits and playing intense.

I have a good feeling about Engqvist. He is big, smart, wins faceoffs, kills penalties effectively and skates very well for his size. Prototypical center for a 4th line that could be relied upon in key defensive situations. My lines would be the following:
Plus realistically Gomez can possibly come off the books. If he has a decent season then the fact that his cap hit is higher than his salary after this coming season can make him worth millions in cash in the pocket of some owner who's only scraping the ceiling floor. If he continues to decline, he may have to go the Wade Reddon route. Either way, I don't see the Habs facing insurmountable cap problems next year. The Price contract may be a nightmare to do, but that would be true regardless of cap space. Subber's only heading for his second contract. While it would be great to lock him up long term, it's not a necessity yet.
I agree, after this coming year, if we can find a replacement(cheaper) or upgrade on Gomez, he becomes very tradeable, unless he has another 40 point year, which I think is very unlikely. I expect him to bounce back to at least a 60 point pace(over 82 games) and maybe have a big year up to 70 with added focus and hopefully having healthy Gio and Pacioretty on his wings. Having more depth on the wings than we did to start last year(add a much improved Pacioretty plus Cole) should help Gomez avoid that type of year.
Plus, as was mentionned already, we have AK Moen Spacek Gill potetially coming off the books if we need that space. Not that they are garbage but a lot of them could be replaced by younger talent in 12 months time with weber Diaz Yemelin Palushaj Conboy White Weber either in the NHL or knocking on the door.
Now that our defense looks good, we need a third line left winger to play with Eller and Kostitsyn and keep the fourth line for defense, grit and toughness with some speed.
So...
- Trade Spacek with a young prospect (a la Desharnais) for another prospect or young player that we can develop, even a draft pick
- Sign either Moreau or Grier to play on the third line
- Play Blunden as the 13th forward and Weber as the 7th defenseman

I feel like we've made most of the aquisitions we need for this roster. Might aswell save the 4m in cap space and be able to spend at the deadline if we need a player.

Even though center might be a bigger need, I would just take Winchester and run at this point, he fills a bigger need IMHO. Having a guy like that would give more space to our smaller placer and also the guys that play an in your face style.
Maybe also get Begin or Mair on a 2 way contract and have them compete for a 4th line spot.
madden is ok, but he is another left handed shooter... if chris drury is healty he would be a prefect fit, imo.
You mentioned it, health is the scary thing about Drury, I like him a lot but I would be too affraid to sign him. Madden is more durable and has a passed playing on the Devils with Gio and Gomez
If we haven't signed Winchester yet (or a guy like him) we won't at this time IMO.
Maybe a tryout but I'm sure other teams will offer him one as well. But I agree with you, if Gauthier didn't do it yet + he signed White to a 1 way, make me believe he is comfortable with White and Moen as our tough guys
