Yeah, he's not better than Mara. But real money is realer to the organization than it is to us. If our kids do come through, I guess the difference between Woywitka and Mara is not worth the $500k or whatever the difference would be between a 1-way deal for Mara and a 2-way deal for Woywitka. $500k is actually real money. Alas.

They just need to add this to their game and perhaps it will happen with the habs, if not anyway he is a capable 7th dman and an excellent AHL guy.
Are you confusing Jay Leach with someone else here? A big, physical defenseman about sums him up.

Further, Woywitka actually has skill. He just never put it together. That's why he was a high pick and highly touted.

I think if you blended these two defensemen you'd have a very capable top-4, in fact.

More depth for Hamilton. Maybe hes the Picard of this year, if someone goes down or struggles he will come up as the 7th guy, but im sure they envision him more in hamilton.

The Habs may have gotten themselves a steer. And what is a steer? A big, altered bull.

5 hits in 7 games in 2010-2011
20 hits in 35 games in 2009-2010
7 hits in 24 games 2008-2009

so 32 hits in 66 games in the last 3 years.

Plus he is soft in front of his goalie. The only thing physical he does is fighting...he isn't agressive at all and he fight to try to keep his place in a lineup.

No, he didn't.

Sorry guys, but you just signed the worst d-man in the league.

gotta love it when people use hyperbole to try to enhance the lack of facts they have in their statements.

This comment is completely useless, he's signed TO A TWO WAY CONTRACT...he's not likely to see anytime with the habs if their defense is able to stay relatively healthy. As of today, he's probably #8 or 9 on the depth chart.

The idea is not for him to play on our top pairing like he did in Dallas last year.

Because Marc Crawford is an idiot. Which is why he is not with the Stars anymore.

Here's the deal. Woywitka had 3-4 good games and Crawford decided to run with him for a majority of the season and push aside/scratch Fistric. Jeff had a few moments where he was decent, but most of the time he was a defensive liability.

At best, he's a spare D-Man or injury call-up, and good for MTL for signing him to a 2-way contract.

You have not seen Spacek play. Have you seen Bergeron in his own end ?

I'm really fine with that acquisition. Good d-men core in Hamilton. You HAVE to be strong down there to compensate for a young group up front and an okay goaltending duo....

Montreal refuses to sign anyone who is willing to fight and can actually do a good job. I'm starting to think signing Travis Moen was a mistake. They wanted someone else.

Even though he'll more than likely play in Hamilton he still sure as hell can't fight worth ****.

For a team that has a lot of uncertainty on the back-end (the health of Markov and Gorges, the ability of Yemelin and Diaz to make the transition to the N-A game, as well as Weber being able to make the jump and have a full-time NHL spot), I am pleased with this signing.

In LaPresse, Woywitka (sp?) said that Habs contacted him day 1 but he was holding out for a possible 1 way contract. Habs identified him as Picard's replacement from day 1 of UFA market.

In the spring of 2012 you will see:

Markov - Gorges
Gill - Subban
Woywitka - Emelin
Weber

Les Justiciers Masqués on the signing :

La meilleure nouvelle relative à l’acquisition de Woywitka, c’est que Benoit Brunet ne sera plus en ondes pour massacrer son nom! On se souvient qu’en deux ans à RDS, Brunet n’a pas prononcé une seule fois le nom d’Andrei Kostitsyn de la même façon! Autre fait notable : il n’a utilisé que 14 mots de vocabulaire en 527 appar*itions télé, ce qui lui assure une place bien méritée dans le livre Guinness des records! Bravo champion

Can someone translate? (I could, but I'm busy)
Thanks

The best news about Woywitka acquisition is the fact that Benoit Brunet won't be on air anymore to butcher his name. In two years on RDS, he was unable to pronouce A.K.'s name twice the same way. Another notable fact: he only used 14 vocabulary words in 527 TV shows , that is awarding him a well deserved place in the Ginness Book of records. Way to go Champ !

Nothing wrong with picking up a 9th Defenseman who was traded for good Mike Comrie and later on for Chris Pronger.
