I certainly hope they did. Bowman is more offensive and McIlrath is defensive, so it would make sense. It would also give us two very solid pairings. At this point in their developments both Erixon and Parlett will be more effective at this tournament IMO.

It is now confirmed that Tayler Jordan will take part with the New York Rangers prospects at the Traverse City tournament in Michigan in September. Jordan has played in that tournament before with Columbus and also attended a training camp with the Vancouver Canucks. You can expect both Ryan Johansen and Oliver Gabriel to play for Columbus in that tournament, and maybe a few other Hawks or ex-Hawks as well.

Oh wow, there are going to be some players who can absolutely throw bombs at this tournament....

McIlrath, Kassian, McNaught, Noreau. Should be some good fights.

Is their plan to just beat the other team's up?

McNaught
Jordan
Noreau
McIlrath
Wilson

I know the team is collectively small, but holy crap is that a lot of muscle. Detroit doesn't have even (1) player who would go with anyone except MAYBE Wilson who is a good middleweight.

I wonder what it is with the Wings...it seems like through out their system they refuse to sign/draft players who will engage.

I must admit the Wing-Avs wars of the 90's were awesome...they don't even have a McCarthy in their system anymore.

I don't know about sign, but why draft, meaning use an asset, on virtually worthless players that at, best, might be the 12th or 13th forward on your team, playing 4 minutes a game (when they actually play), when you can always sign someone for that at a cheap price should you actually need it (never mind that the need for it continues to evaporate).

I assume you mean McCarty, but it has been years since Detroit has had anyone other than one goon (and even then, they've had a number of years without one) that is a regular fighter. As you can see, not fighting has REALLY affected their success.

Those Avs wars consisted less of staged fights and more of spontaneous action, meaning that actual players got involved (like McCarty) and not so much enforcers or goons. Other than Kocur, the Wings didn't really use those type of players even then. Same with the Avs.

I like that perspective.

Like of course, at some point you end up drafting worthless offensiveprospects or goons that can't play, and its just as likely that the goon will develop into a good player as the worthless offensive prospect -- so I am not against drafting fighters per se, if you believe that they might have potential.

In the end though, you always gotta keep in mind that you always can get a certain level of performance for a reasonable buck on the free agent market.

I wasn't refering to goons...I will use Brian Burke's phrase "truculence".

I remember a few years back when the played the Ducks in a playoff series...the Wings won but the Ducks decided to beat up Datz and Zetterberg...I would have guessed they would have added a little more muscle within their system.

That is a scary lineup. Glad they did it with all the smaller skilled guys on the team. 4 heavys to go along with wilson, bowman, yogan and even miller that can drop the gloves.

I'm thinking thomas, mc colgan and st croix will get plenty of room.

I'll be at work during the games with no puter access. Highlights posted via you-tube would be very much appreciated.

The real question is does anyone have a way of recording this and possibly sending out a copy for us all to watch?

There will probably be a stream around game time. Can this thread get stickied (or stuck, whichever is the proper term)?

When the games begin, someone can definitely feel free to make a GDT for each game. And yeah, we can definitely sticky those.

Jackets have released their roster:

http://bluejackets.nhl.com/v2/ext/20...CampRoster.pdf

They are actually taking some guys with experience this year (unlike last year) so they don't get whipped again.

Quote:
This year, the Blue Jackets will bring 26 players — three goaltenders, nine defensemen and 14 forwards — to Traverse City for the tournament, which begins Sept. 10.

Ten of those players already have debuted as pros, including five — forward Tomas Kubalik and defensemen Cody Goloubef, John Moore, Ted Ruth and David Savard — who played full seasons in the American Hockey League last season. They’ll join top offensive prospects Ryan Johansen, Cam Atkinson and Boone Jenner in what should be a very good club.

Last year, the Blue Jackets had only one player (Kyle Neuber) with at least one game of pro experience on their roster. The Jackets went 0-4 and were outscored 23-8, including an 8-1 loss to Carolina in the second game.

By comparison, Minnesota, which won the tournament, had 290 games of pro experience in its lineup, including four players with 50-plus pro games and three with NHL experience.

I'm excited to watch Cam Atkinson play again, he's a local kid. Family grew up in Greenwich CT.
