Craig Heisinger Speaks to Media (with audio)

Remis was down at the MTS Centre this afternoon and this was what he wrote:

Winnipeg Jets Assistant General Manager Craig Heisinger spoke to the media this afternoon in regards to the death of Rick Rypien. He did not have a prepared statement, but took questions from the media on Rypiens’ personal issues, and the type of player he was on the ice.

Here is a link to the audio.

I'm glad to hear that they are going to honour him in some way. Perhaps a "RR" patch similar to the "LB" patch the moose wore for Luc Bourdon.

You can hear the emotion in Zinger's voice... Man. Such a sad day.

Question, would starting a "Rypien" chant at the home opener be deemed as unclassy?

I don't think so, I believe they will honour him on opening night. I think the connection that Moose fans had with Rick will lead to something similar to that.

This is a tragic event, no doubt about it.

It's interesting to note, both Rypien and Snyder wore #37. I know #37 was going to be out of circulation already in respect to Snyder and his family but now opening night will be a tribute to both #37's I would imagine.

Rypien's passing is a true tragedy, for sure.

But he never, not once, suited up for the Winnipeg jets. Wouldn't a memorial be more suited in Vancouver? Or do you think we honour him for his contributions to the Moose?

Condolences to the Rypien family. I was really looking forward to watching him play for the Jets.

Well no one has suited up for the Jets, he's in the same boat as every other player on the roster there. Rick was under contract with the Jets at the time of his passing, and has been a part of Winnipeg hockey for years (off and on). I think it's appropriate to honour him in Winnipeg.

If we're playing Vancouver at some point would be a good time to do a tribute.

That would be very fitting, however looking at the schedule we only play Vancouver once, and that is March 8th in Vancouver.

Zinger is so fricking honest. I love this guy! He also gave me a hat on my Birthday. I was just a regular fan, someone said it was my Birthday so he went to get a hat for me, he's just phenomenal.

A thought on that as a guy who went to many games I was a part of that Bourdon game, there were no chants for that game but a moment of silence. Lots of sniffles. Personally the best thing someone can do is give their silence and let those pray and/or reflect back on memories of that player.

No, we do the tribute in the home opener. That is the best time a player should have a tribute, especially if their passing happened prior to the season. They did that for Luc Bourdon and they'll do that for Rick Rypien.
