Who are the top prospects in Iowa this year?

I'm going to see the Iowa stars quite a bit, and I was wondering if anyone had a good idea of who to look for this year when I go see them?

Will Stephan be playing in goal with Ellis?

Will guys like Daley, Belle, Nickerson be on the defense?

Did Ericksson really sign?

ect.

Who are the top prospects Iowa bound...thanks.

Stephan will be playing in Switzerland still. He was only signed because apparently the Stars would have lost his rights without signing him. Daley will be in the NHL for sure. Belle and Nickerson should be there, along with Nicklas Grossman(Stars signed him today). Yes, Eriksson signed today, along with Jussi Jokinen. I'd say that any number of these guys will be in Iowa:

Dan Ellis
Mike Smith
Shawn Belle
Matt Nickerson
Nicklas Grossman
Vojtech Polak
Marius Holtet
Loui Eriksson
Jussi Jokinen
Yared Hagos(maybe, might make the team)
David Bararuk
Janos Vas

Plus whoever Edmonton sends there.

How come we would have lost his rights? I always have a hard time understanding how much time we have to sign draft picks. Some we have longer, others shorter.

In the old CBA Player drafted out of Europe didn't have to sign until they're 30 and were getting UFA... I think except the Age nothing has changed in the new CBA, but nobody can confirm this....

But this would make sense, 'cause I too read that Stephan is staying in Switzerland... Would there be space for him!?
I mean Turco and Hedberg in Dallas, Ellis and Smith in Iowa... Stephan would've been the odd man out and would've play in the ECHL!?

In the new CBA, European players have to be signed by two years of their draft date, starting with the 2005 draft (like with the CHL players). The deadlines to get European players to from previous drafts were probably stipulated in the new CBA as well.

The upside of this is that past a certain age, European players don't have to be drafted to obtain their rights anymore. They're essentially UFAs but probably can't be under contract at the time of an NHL signing.

You forgot B. J. Crombeen. I'd say Crombeen's more likely to stick than Vas.

Wathier is worthless, and we both know it. I didn't include him intentionally. I expect him to be manning a third line in the ECHL.

You know I was being sarcastic. He'll be lucky if he can even manage that. Quite possibly the worst player I have ever seen...and Ive seen some 45 year old HS physics teachers play.

Kloten Flyers has released the statement that Tobias Stephan will play this season for the Flyers and crosses the pond for next season (contract starts from 2006/07 season).

Fistric's not an overager though, so he'd have to play in Vancouver anyway unless he managed to make the Stars, which I doubt.

Were did you get that!? Do you have a link or something!?

Does that mean, that european players are UFA after they didn't get picked in their draft year?
That would be a huge change in the new CBA that went under the radar...

They become UFAs after they turn 22, so they have to be undrafted for a few years to be UFAs.

Don't forget Naslund. Dallas has called him to the Rookie Camp.

Naslund's playing in Peterborough, I'm pretty sure. The Stars haven't signed him, but if he's going to be in NA at camp time, he'll almost certainly play with the Petes.

Dan Baum, Toby Peterson, Jason Platt and Kenny Smith were reassigned to Iowa on the 22nd, but I don't know who was kept and who was sent down to Greenville/released after that.

Kyle Brodziak, Matt Greene, Yan Stastny and Zach Stortini were put there on the 29th, and all should stick barring some kind of major disaster.
