Hi guys, recently my cousin and I were in an argument about which scenario was better. Being a fan of the team with the most recent Stanley Cup or being a fan of the team with the most cups. Obviously the fact that I'm a habs fan and he's a bruins fan is going to make us bias when it comes to hockey matters but honestly guys, this one is a no-brainer for me. What would you rather, most or most recent. I say most. 24 Stanley cups. Boston's never going to come close to that, and sure the glammer and ecstasy of being winners now is great, but tommorow is a new day. Next season a new champion will be crowned (hopefully), and boston will be shoved out of the spotlight. Montreal however will forever stand atop a mountain that every other team can only dream of scaling. My cousin says: "but you didn't see any of those championships." Well know I didn't but, that doesn't mean they didn't happen. That doesn't mean we aren;t going to win another one, like real, real soon. And when we do and I'm wearing my 25 time champs shirt, will their be a hockey soul on this earth who isn't thinking, "what I wouldn't trade to be them".
The Bruins are going to have to do a lot more than be last season's champions to impress me. Last season the Bruins won the sixth Stanley Cup in their team's history. In the time between winning that Cup and their previous in 1972, the Canadiens have won seven Cups.
For this year people will say omg da bruins rule, but in two years we will still have 24 cups(if we don't win one) and they will no longer be the "recent cup champs".

The Habs have won 2 cups since I was born and I can barely remember the last one.
I'd prefer having won one in the recent past honestly.
At some point, we have to climb down our high horse.
but it really depends where you wanna take it, best team last year, going into next year ( most arguable), over the decade or all time,
just cause they won last year doesn't mean they are the best ever, they were just the best of that year ( took awhile to type that ) you can make arguments about how we were a couple players off or 1 goal away, but the cup trumps all....that being said, if you wanna get into best of all time its a short road
Recent cups. The lockout really changed a lot of things in the NHL. In my eyes, the habs have as many cups as the senators or the leafs for example. Don't care about what they did in the 50's or 70's, habs have not done anything in the last 10 years.

I am too young to have seen all but 2 of the cup wins and in the 1st I would have been about 7 months old when they won, but I respect the oldentimes a lot anyways and marvel at what they accomplished, but here and now is what matters to me.
Boston has the one up on Montreal and it sickens me, good thing they're gonna rectify that soon!

Would you rather be the guy that got laid lots in high school but now spends nights alone or the guy who couldn't get any back then but is gettin some now?
Sorry but gotta go with the recent one. I've seen the 86 and 93 still lucky with 2 but I wanna see the Habs win the cup every year, so the one in the 50's and 60's I don't really care about

Worst comparison ever.
Most people here never witnessed a Cup. So none of us got ''laid''.

It's not like we were all alive for the 24 Cups.
Exactly the new Habs generation were either way too young in 93 or not even born yet they go to the Bell Centre and tell the Bruins and Leafs fans but we have 24 Cups!!!
We have to win one before the Leafs do, or we will never hear the end of it
All of that success has enriched the organisation with tradition, pride, and a great sense of history. Those great players of the past are part of the franchise still today, and have a great impact on both the team and fans. There's a sense of culture of hockey that surrounds the club which is unrivaled in the NHL.
Honestly, not sure how anyone could choose the 1-Cup recent history (I mean, Carolina has a Cup. TB has a Cup...) over everything the Habs have.

Most people? Geez man, we're not all below 20. 1993 is not the 70s.
It's definitely more fun to have the most recent when it just happened. But in 3-4 years if the Bruins don't win another one it's just going to be a memory that's starting to be remote and their history will still be 6 cups. The Habs will always have the rich history and dynasties behind them and you can always fall back to that in darker times.
But it's time we get another cup so that we have both!

Well, it is an internet forum.
As fun as it is to celebrate and be obnoxious and fill the league's coffers by buying the 20xx Championship hat, shirt, DVD, pennant, jacket, license plate, magnets, mug, towel, scarf, etc, I'd still rather be the more storied franchise.
