Since nobody wanted him, he will take his buyout payment and go home

I'm sure retiring from the sport you love is an easy decision to make. Give me a break bud.

Great time to retire. He won his cup, he proved his worthiness without Sakic or Forsberg in Buffalo and he made his millions in New York. Have no use for the teams he played for, but have the utmost respect for how he played the game before his skills diminished.

Even though this isn't really a Trade or Free Agency thing, I think I'll sticky it for the time being so people will stop proposing 'Drury to Any Team With an Injury'

How does this work from the Rangers POV?
Are they now stuck with a cap hit from the buyout that they would have been free of had he retired at that time?

Ignorant for you to say that
Drury had a great career, but you are just thinking about the money you could have saved?
If anything you can blame the doctors and the Rangers organization for not getting his injury issues settled in time
Pathetic.....

Would have liked to see him go to Colorado for a one-year swan song, but alas. Much respect to Drury.

That would have been awesome he can teach them a thing or two about what it takes to win because Drury's been a winner his entire life. Sad to see him retire. I still remember it like yesterday when him and Hejduk played their first season with the Avs.

If you think that's bad go on the Rangers board. A lot of people are making him out to be the Anti Christ.....

You would think someone would have offered him something. The guy can still play hockey, just not at the level he was at when he was with Buffalo. He was great in the Olympics. He would be a perfect bottom 6 player. Probably one of the best third line centers in the game. Sad news, good luck to him.

Feel bad for this guy, and how he succumbed to his injuries. I think he still had some good hockey in him even with little amount of money.

Best of luck to this guy.

How does anyone know nobody wanted him, nobody offered him anything, etc. It's entirely plausible he was offered minimum somewhere and he decided "No, with the amount of money I've earned so far and my long-term health as it is, it's not worth going through another year of this and risking further chronic injury to pad my nest egg by 3%."
