Peddie Guarantees Leafs Make Playoffs

Quote:
Okay, let’s get this out of the way: Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd. President Richard Peddie guarantees that the Leafs will make the playoffs this season.

“Absolutely,” Peddie said, when asked if he was certain about his prediction. “But I guess Burkie’s going to kill me now.”

I don’t get it. Everyone seems to cower around Leafs GM Brian Burke these days. Sure, he growls and barks and snarls. But so does the dog next door. Then again, the dog next door is closer to winning a Stanley Cup than Burkie is.

Right track

Hey, I’m just kidding. Burkie has the Leafs on the right track. They’ve got two great, young goalies, a solid core on defence and a gifted goal scorer up front. All they need is 11 more quality forwards and the parade is on.

Pretty cynical article by Buffery if you ask me. The most annoying part was when he said 'all they need is 11 more quality forwards'...

not even remotely funny or witty or anything... .

he doesn't even know who's on the team

kulemin? grabo? mac? army? connolly? kadri? lupul?

I caught up with Peddie at Maple Leaf Square on Saturday, where MLSEL was throwing a street party in celebration of ... well, I’m not sure what they were celebrating. They haven’t won anything. The cynic in me figures the party was a ruse to sell condos.
OMG this is such bad writing void of any kind of wit or style.. so embarrassing, can't read it any more.

ok. one more.

I guess if Burkie isn’t signing big, dumb animals, he’s hunting them.

This guy has to be one of the worst writers i've ever read. And I mean that honestly.

Yeah I remember the last time we were guaranteed to have a playoff spot. How'd that turn out?

Also, lol at the "11 more quality forwards" comment. I guess the two other 30 goal scorers are poor quality. Not to mention a 40 assist guy and another who could possibly score 25 goals.

Pretty bad article overall.

I was just about to pull out some quotes, but you did a fine job LeeIs. So many back-handed comments about leafs. Another blunder by the folks at The Sun.

Btw, it doesn't sound like that kind of gurantee. this idiot probably just went up to him and asked if they'll make the playoffs and peddie answered 'absolutely' what else is he supposed to say? then peddie just joked that burke will kill him now. . that's it. those are the only two quotes i've seen of peddie in this garbage.

I don't see the word "guarantee" anywhere in that quote, and I'm not gonna give that trash the Toronto Sun any ratings.

That article is absolutely awful. That's embarrassing, even by The Sun standards.

Could it be..that we find out the identity of Hockeyfanz, Disgruntled Observer or President Camacho?

Anyway, didn't bother to click on the link, just had to read what was in the quote to know that the whole thing is pure garbage. I mean honestly, 11 more quality forwards, REALLY? I gues Kule who is looking to become a premier PWF who just scored 30 goals isn't quality, I guess Grabo who only got 29 goals while improving on all the facets of his game isn't quality, I guess Mac getting 62 points isn't quality, I guess having Connolly who got 65(?) points in 70something games 2 seasons ago isn't quality, or Lupul who has been a pretty consistent 20 goal guy when healthy isn't quality, Armstrong who is one of the best agitators in the game who is also one of the best 3rd liners isn't quality.

The straw that broke the camel's back.

I never thought in my life i'd say this but I may just stick with the globe and mail for sports articles. They may not have the most content, but their articles have no ulterior motive or hidden agenda. They just tend to report what happened.

That and TSN of course

I actually laughed pretty hard. Sometimes you just need to look at things as a joke and move on.

Steve Buffery

Toronto Sun

Born and raised in Toronto, Steve Buffery grew up around the corner from the Sun's Rob Longley and attended the same high school in Etobicoke - Vincent Massey Collegiate. He studied journalism at Humber College, then worked at the Etobicoke Guardian before joining the Toronto Sun in 1985. Buffery covered Olympic sports for 15 years, winning three Dunlop Awards for sportswriting and, in 1996, was named sportswriter of the year by the Sports Federation of Canada. Also in 1996, Buffery was a National Newspaper Award finalist. Buffery has also covered the Leafs, Toronto Raptors, boxing, mixed martial arts - you name it. He currently writes a humour column (Leave it to Beezer), when he's not pontificating on the state of professional sports in North America. Buffery still lives in Etobicoke.

I guess someone never gave him the reality check that he is not funny.

His thoughts regarding hockey = useless to listen to.

His thoughts on business, however, well that's another story.

A little tongue in cheek here-but anyone want to take odds that if the Leafs don't make the playoffs, people are going to point to this article and say "Peddie Guaranteed it!"-including the Media?

The only thing the Toronto Sun does is stir up trouble. Almost every single story here posted by the Sun have been a dismal attempt to troll on the Leafs. Make your own story for yourself instead of reading this crap from the Sun.

He's just a passionate Leafs fan - which is more than I can say for some here. He says this pretty much every year.
