Miami wasn't going to get into the SEC before any of this came out anyway.

Their last probation was ridiculously light anyway.

I know, but they were trying to. As futile as those attempts may be, they can forget it altogether now.

Eh, it's not like Florida isn't cheating to some degree, they aren't exactly darlings in their own right

I guess Penn State is quite a few seasons removed from being a true top tier team, but Joe Pa runs a tight ship it seems.

They haven't been a true top tier team since the 80's. They did have the 95 Rose Bowl appearance but even said the game is WAYYYYYY different now. Even those 2 BCS appearances they weren't top tier IMO. They split the Little 10 Title with OSU, just won the head to game each time.

Yeah, they just seem to be the cleanest run of any "big name" program. Hard to think of ones that have been "elite" continually post-80's that haven't gotten into some trouble.

Lol at OU being implied as a clean program. HIstorically, that's ******** because of what happened under Barry. Also, I hate Bob Stoops for being a jerk, but he turned himself in after that pyramid scheme ****, and kicked offenders such as Bomar off the team when they got that car thingy.

They weren't cheating though. Most of that was DUI's and smoking pot.

The U is now probing the eligibility of 15 current players and most of them are key players:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...ainvestigation

We are soooooo screwed.

There is already talk of Golden possibly having an out clause in his contract (which he did not confirm OR deny) if the bottom drops on the program. I would not be shocked if his stay at The U is a very short one no matter how much he says he is happy right now.

The real loser in all this is golden, earned a job in a big time conference and now could get screwed over for reason he has nothing to do with...

Who replaced Golden at Temple, if anyone? Any chance he could go back?

Golden should leave ASAP if he thinks he's going to get screwed. Not right this second, but after the season. He'll get another good job.

And no, he wouldn't be going back to Temple.

Fascinating article linked from the Miami Herald on how this expose came to be:

The guy who replaced Golden was one of the most hated offensive coordinators last year.

Golden will be fine. They could bomb this season and I don't think too many would blame him. If he has an out, he could bail and another solid job will probably be available to him at a BCS school (Illinois? Washington State? Arizona State? heck maybe Penn State?)

Been skeptical of this "story" since it came out. I grew up in South Florida. I'm a Miami everything fan. I know who Nevin is, and I've been scratching my head as to how this is so credible coming from him, and anonymous sources. So did this guy, and I agree.

Quote:
Nevin Shapiro is not Jose Canseco, the steroid user who ratted out baseball.Shapiro, the Ponzi-schemer who ratted out The U, has more in common with Crystal Mangum than the former major league slugger.
Quote:
“(Shapiro) is a convicted felon and a proven liar. Using a guy like that as your key witness, the standard, the bar, has to be set so high that anything less than documented solid proof has to be set aside," Anderson said. “If I put in a complaint to a government agency that I’m relying on a convicted liar and the people corroborating his story are mostly anonymous, they would laugh in our face. If I was to take this to The New York Times or even the New York Post, they would laugh me out of the room. What he put in that story wouldn’t fly. No way. Not ever."

The definitive answer may be coming:

http://eye-on-football.blogs.cbsspor...fb_na_txt_0001

Quote:
the 72 named players in the report will be subpoenaed by the bankruptcy trustee in the Shapiro case, Joel Tabas, and requested to pay back the money that they reportedly received from Shapiro at Miami.

"They can't ignore it — it's a subpoena issued by a bankruptcy court," Tabas' attorney Gary Freedman said, per the Miami Herald. "If they ignore it, we will seek an order from the court to compel them to respond. If they don't respond, they will face a contempt order."
