Bumped into Paul Postma here in Calgary yesterday and got to chatting with him about the organizational move and whatnot and he gave me a few good quotes to put a little piece together. Thought you might find this interesting in the dog days of summer:
“I want to be there so bad and I’m going to do everything I can to be there,” he said.
He’s been there before, if only for a moment.
Postma got a sniff of the NHL last season, playing in a March 9th contest against the Carolina Hurricanes. Though he played just 9:55, the experience was more than enough to motivate the former Calgary Hitmen standout.
“It was amazing,” said Postma, who had 33 assists and 45 points in 69 games with the Wolves last season. “It’s totally different hockey. Players are a lot smarter. The game is just so much different. Sure it is faster and guys are stronger but I love the pace and the tempo and I thought I played really well when I was up there and I look forward to playing more next year.”
By all accounts it looks like Postma will be the first AHL call up this year. I think with injuries, and depending on where we are towards the end of the season (in the race or out), I think he will see plenty of action this year in the NHL.
I really like Postma, he impressed me against the Moose last season. I think he may have had a two goal game (?) but not totally certiain. For sure had a multi-point game. I would like to see us make a move for a center that would allow him to make our team.
