05-06 wish list

Your three realistic wishes for the team this year. (And no, I don't necessarily think squeaking into the playoffs is unrealistic.)

1. Lundqvist proves he's a legitimate NHL starter. (We'll hope for further improvement next year.)

2. Tyutin proves he's a 23-minute-per-night, quality first pairing defenseman.

3. Sather manages to acquire another 1st round draft choice.

1. I'd like to see the youngsters that are with the team grow into they're roles and I'd love to see our prospects in the CHL and other developmental leagues carry they're hot start through the season.

2. I'd like to see Jagr traded for atleast a #1 pick and a bigtime prospect (anything less would be giving him away.)

3. Phil Kessel, or atleast a top 5 pick.

1. Lundqvist take over the starting goalie role by Jan and have a save% over .910
2. Kondratiev becomes a legit top 4 defensman for the team by the end of the year and putting up 20 points.
3. Jagr being in the top 5 in scoring.

I have a wishlist for next 24 hours.

Prunca better make the team despite that crack a$$ Purinton's mistake.

The Rangers should have a very young and exciting 4th line. That's the only place where seemingly youth will be allowed to play, especially if Ward is playing on the 3rd line. So I guess that Hollyweg & Betts can really grow into good 3 minute a night/4th line roles.

My wish list:

1. Our youth in Hartford to show that they can play at the NHL level. Maybe if they score 40 goals on offense or 60 points on defense and not make one mistake, we might get to see them in a few years.
2. Lundquist to show that he can handle the NHL
3. Since this team is to be judged by wins and losses, for Renney to instill discipline and hard work that has been missing for the better part of a decade.

at least one or two of our unproven youngsters establish themselves

would like to see tyutin and lundqvist prove their worth (they have so far, its obvious they are top tier prospects just by watching them in comparison to others etc)

since its a wish list, kovalchuk

3. Prucha, Lundquvist, Tyutin become regular contributors to our success

Three?

I'm going to be more broad:

1) A broader range of prospects take a bigger step forward to becoming NHLers than last season.

2) Prucha, my new favorite yoot, is in the lineup by November 1 and stays until April 18 - and then goes back to Hartford.

3) The Rangers get a top ten #1 pick, a result of many close games that were hard-fought in which kids, Tyutin, Prucha, etc., were material contributors.

Let me see. I'll try not to cheat. Really so many of these wishes are worth stealing and using for my own.

1) Sather goes away. Now who do we replace him with? Hedberg? Not bad. That's just one. There are others I'm sure. Feel free to chime in on possible replacements.

2) That the first two lines of vets don't suck up all the quality ice time so our 3rd and 4th line players have a fair chance to establish themselves.

3) That somehow or other whether we place 8th, 9th or 10th (I don't see us making the playoffs) we manage by hook or by crook to get a pick in the top 5.

1) Our special teams improve and set a standard for the future.

2) We play hard all the time.

3) Renney holds players accountable.

I've listed mine in order of realism. All of which are quite possible.

1) Lunqvist performs like the legit #1 I know he is.

2) Immonen steps-up as a second/third line center by the trade deadline.

3) The Chicago Blackhawks doing well and trading Barker, Seabrook, or Babchuck to us at the trade deadline for a veteran to solidify their run at a cup and our future defence.

I don't know about wishlists. Though this is how I look at the future:

I think that around Febuary, Lundqvist, Tyutin, Kondratiev and Prucha will have established themselfs as good, young, future building blocks and important memebers of the NYR.

I also think the duo of Betts and Ortmayer will have established themself in the league as great 3rd line players for years to come.

Hossa, Hollweg, Moore and Lundmark is also in the mix.

If this comes true I think its a pretty reasonable output.

We would still have our biggest talents in the lower levels developing. Korpikoski, Jessiman and Staal.

We have a potentially great asset in Montoya.

We have a ton of guys who have some experience but maybe not the biggest upsides but who still have potential to if they keep developing becoming solid NHLers in Dawes, Balej, Immonen, Pck, Liffiton, Taylor, Lampman and Helminen.

Add to that a bunch of good looking kids who will challenge in 1 or 2 years in Dubinsky, Sauer, Cliche, Dupont, Kozak, Baranka, Graham, Callahan, Bahensky, Olver, Psurny and Petruzalek.

Overall I think the future looks bright. I think there will be atleast 6 good young players who will be locks on this team for years to come after this season. I am pretty sure guys like Korpikoski, Staal and Jessiman will establish themselfs to that group next year. That would make it 9. I also belive its reasonable to expect that atleast on D out of the group of Pck, Liffiton, Taylor, Lampman and Baranka will take that last step and that one forward out of Dubinsky, Callahan, Grahame, Kozak, Dawes, Immonen, Psurny, Olver, Helminen, Ryan, Petruzalek or Psurny will do the same. That would leave us with 11 homegrown really young players entering 06-07.

G
1. Lundqvist
D
2. Tyutin
3. Kondratiev
4. Staal
5. Pck/Liffiton/Taylor/Lampman/Baranka

F
6. Jessiman
7. Korpikoski
8. Prucha
9. Betts
10. Ortmayer
11.Dubinsky/Callahan/Grahame/Kozak/Dawes/Immonen/Psurny/Olver, Helminen/Ryan/Petruzalek/Psurny
12. Hollweg/Hossa/Moore

Allot can happend in 12 month, there will be good and bad news for some of these players. But I think the reubild is comming along just fine. Gooing into next season I think we could have around 10 to 12 homegrown players. And none of them will be there just for show, they will have to beat out pretty tough competition.

aside from #1, i don't see how #2-3 are quite possible

3 is a "who knows" but barker and seabrook just make it not real for speculation

1. Lundqvist takes over the #1 Goalie spot

2. We trade Jagr, Rucchin, Straka, Weeks and Nylander for high draft picks and prospects. Also, get back a servicable veteran backup goalie for Lundqvist.

3. Montoya backstops Hartford to the championship. Jessiman scores a hat trick in the final game.

4. We finish 27th overall and WIN the draft lottery. Trade down to the #2 overall and pick Mueller.

Not saying your wrong (I've never seen Mueller play) but I don't even want to imagine the riot that would take place if that actually happened.

(1) Continued develoment throughout the organization of the "yoots".

(2) Veterans get dealt for additional picks/prospects.

(3) A top five pick is secured.

I'd like to see those happen also. Man I want to get the #1 pick so freakin bad lol. I really would like to see some of the older guys traded for either picks or prospects just like the last season.

1.A team that shows up most nights
2.Lundqvist gets a fair share of starts
3.Betts and Ortmeyer become our top PK pair and part of checking line

1. Lundqvist proving he can hold his own in his first year in the nhl and leave room for improvement.

2. Someone like tyutin not only impress with their game, but also show the make up of a true leader and someone who can take the C from Kasparitis.

3. Trade Jagr and maybe another vet or two having good years to contenders for picks. On the same train of thought, finish low enough to get one of the first three picks in the next draft.
