PMDmen we should consider

When talking about the upcoming year, its painfully obvious that we could use another solid Dman to compliment our young D. Preferably someone who can generate offense. Here's a short list of players that MAY be available at some point.

Which player is most likely to be aquired, and for what price?

(NOT IN ANY PARTICULAR ORDER)

1.Babchuk-Not a UFA but signed to a reasonable contract.

2.Tyutin-Not sure if he could really help from the point, but I would love to see him back.

3.Kuba-Not a huge fan, but he would be welcomed at the right price.

4.Aucoin-Equivalent to the Mccabe fill in. He still has a shot and could be a cheap veteran acquisition.

5.Colaiacovo-Young UFA, valuable when healthy.

6.Liles-Very good offensive player. He could really help the PP.

7.Oduya-I really haven't seen much of his play in Atlanta, but on NJ he was very reliable.

Assuming that these teams are outside looking in, I think these guys will be playing for different teams.

Did I miss anyone?/Do we need any of these guys, or will Del Zotto and Erixon be enough to fortify the back-end?

Most of those guys aren't what I would call puck-moving defensemen.

And I don't think it's painfully obvious. I think our D will be fine next year. The best offensive team in the league had 2 defenesmen with more than 30 points and 2 more with more than 20. Assuming we have DelZotto on the team, I expect us to have 3 defensemen with over 30 points -Staal, Girardi, DelZotto- (although I doubt any will have 50 like Ehrhoff) and one more with over 20 -McDonagh or Erixon-

Del Zotto and Erixon.

If they fail, we can start looking at an acquisition at Tyutin at the deadline, but I'd imagine that would be more for defensive purposes than offensive.

What Fitzy said. The answers to the problem are hopefully in-house.

I go with Fitzy aswell. I still hope that MDZ can turn things around and Erixon would be a solid partner for him to backup the defensive zone.

Other than Tyutin who is not a offense generating dman, no one on that list interests me at all. I'll take a pass.

Don't let age deceive you. The Rangers defense is far more mature then their age would let on. Normally 22 and 24 year olds aren't what you lead your defense with and you wouldn't expect to let them take the lead in the playoffs. But we've got a 24 year old who is one of the best in the league and a 22 year old who is just rock solid.

The Rangers have been building their blueline through the draft for a long time now and it's finally paying off. We have guys in Hartford who would be playing on lesser teams and we've got a top6 that are as good as any team top10 team in the league.

We've got a 7 defenseman and at least 2 kids in Hartford in Teck and Tank who can be called up and are nearly ready, if not ready to go. Put them on Colorado or the Islanders and they're making their team...easily.

We don't need another vet, our 1st and 2nd round picks need to become vets by playing.

This and additionally, I wouldn't right off Valtenko or Drats yet either

This^. Would go with Del Zotto and Erixon.
Plus also, if Vtank needs to stay or be lost on waivers, I'd make sure to find out if he's worth keeping/dealing.

Of all these defenseman Babchuk and Liles are probably the only ones I'd consider real puck movers.

And Babchuk just signed, I doubt he's on his way out all that quick

Most of the players on this list are not players this team would have any interest in, for a variety of reasons. The few that would be nice are not likely to be available any time soon.

I think they should just stay the course..if something happens during the season (injury) then yes go after one of those but if not just stay the course

I know these acquisitions wouldn't be mind blowing, but they are the reasonable moves we could probably make. (Which contrasts proposals for guys like Ryan Suter, who would be almost impossible to get).

I would love for Erixon, Mcd, and MDZ to do well this year. But, with the chance that one of them might struggle, we may need to consider someone who is a little more capable than Eminger to adding to our bottom six.

I think Del Zotto is going to be lights out this year. The threat of sending him down is going to keep him grounded and I just hope Erixon is ready for the NHL. Gotta love the D on paper. Very stacked with potential and depth!

I honestly can't wait to see what this team brings this year... It is very promising if everyone plays to expectations...

Erixon is going to suprise a lot of people.

Everywhere I've read, and from the little of I've seen of him, the reports have him a half-step below Larsson.

His puck moving skills are underrated, severely, and his ability to come up into the play and shoot the puck as well. I'm not saying he's going to be a Drew Doughty of sorts, but the kid can move the puck and shoot it.
