I don't think the Caps would do this, although it does fill a need of theirs.

Take Detroit out, make it Pavelski for Semin straight up and you got a deal, though if I was the Sharks, I'd be hesitant giving up Joe Pavelski with wanting to win the cup and all, he's one of their best playoff players.

Also while Semin is a great player I'm pretty sure Detroit would rather not give Franzen to the Sharks. Y'know since Franzen goes ****ing hexacore in the playoffs.

That's awesome. I don't trade Franzen for Semin if i'm Detroit.

haha, that's funny.

A streaky scorer with dismal playoff production on a one year deal AND who has serious attitude problems for Pavelski signed cheap for 3 more years?

Ya, I'll pass, I'll pass big time. Thanks.

Because:

1) Pavelski is one of our few playoff performers that we need to hold onto.

2) Semin is only signed for one more year until UFA and makes almost $3 mil more than Pavelski who is signed for 3 more years.

3) Doug Wilson just doesn't seem like he likes Russian players for some reason. I don't know why.

I think all 3 teams are bad trading partners.

Well, Perreault is pretty much worthless and the 2nd is meh. Pavelski over Semin improves us a ton roster and cap wise. Doubly so for the future since we have Kuznetsov coming up.

Perreault is not worthless to a team with a self-stated need for forward depth. However, he seems to be the odd man out in Washington's bottom six. It's a good addition.

Pavelski has 3 seasons left at $4m per. I am not sure how much he improves the salary cap situation. Are you convinced that Kuznetsov will be a playoff ready 30 plus goal scorer from a rookie?

Why do the Sharks trade Pavelski for Semin?

They don't. They trade Pavelski for Franzen, Perreault, and Detroit's 2nd.

Kuznetsov gets trial by fire. It's not like he'd have to carry the line with Pavelski and Johansson. Besides, I'm sure one of the other two teams involved would be a bit reluctant if it was too

Hexacore is so good I don't even know what it means. Detroit of the three teams I think has the least incentive to do this (not related to hexacore, if that's even possible).

Why do the Sharks trade Pavelski for Semin?
Because Pavelski at 4 million is a steal, perhaps? I'm sorry, but are we talking about the same player? You're making it sound like he's Belanger or something.

Kuznetsov is all but guaranteed to score 20+ his first year given top 6 ice time. If we have doubts about him we can easily get a 2 a cheap RW. since Laich - Pavelski - ??? is already a pretty good 2nd line if the ??? is even remotely a top 6 player. Hell, plugging Brouwer in there creates a great physical 2-way second line even if it's not the best offensively at even strength. And we make the playoffs with either Pavelski or Semin anyway. But Laich Pavelski Kuznetsov should be an incredible line on its own, an having Johansson on the 3rd line creates a serious matchup advantage.

Also, by asking me if I'm convinced that Kuznetsov will be able to match Semin's playoff production, are you saying that you expect Pavelski to replace none of Semin's playoff production?

And obviously Sharks don't do this though for some reason their fans seem openish to it.

Don't worry, Franzen's also gold in the playoffs. It's Detroit that gets a lazy skilled player for a workhorse who scored just as many goals last year.
