Just caught this on Twitter:

For those who don't know, Roose works for the Wings (used to be in charge of the web site, now is a beat writer for the team) and Buccigross is an ESPN anchor.

Inside info or just speculation? Probably a bit of both.

Look at all the cap space we will have next summer. Im guessing we could sign Parise and still re sign who we need.

Well I sure hope we'd be 'in the running'.

'In the lead' sounds bogus though.

Tease.

I think the Devils extend him before July 1.

The Wings do have 29+ of cap space next year with, but also have 4 D-Men to sign + Helm and Gator to re-sign.

If he hits July 1 it could happen but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I think it's definitely possible, what with our cap room and likely two top six positions available next season.

I love Parise. He plays with so much heart on every shift.

Do you think there's more to this than these two guys playing fantasy hockey? (Seems to be in vogue right now. )

So do I, unless Parise simply wants out. Which is possible, considering the general direction the Devils franchise seems to be heading and with Brodeur nearing retirement. If the Devils can't lock him up, though, I have to think they'll trade him at some point and he'll sign then.

Parise is definitely a possibility, especially with the excess cap space we'll have next season. He's the definition of a Red Wings player, as well.

I think the Wings have a 100x better chance of getting Parise than Weber.

I'd love to see this happen. If Parise makes it to July 1st, I think we've got him.

Even if not, can we somehow motivate Lidstrom to break Howe's record?

interesting. if Wings can get Parise or Weber, why the hell not?

the problem isn't that Wings aren't interested, it's that other 29 teams are probably interested as well.

Wings need to just sign Weber, Suter and Parise so everyone will be happy.

Why not sign Doughty too while they're at it?

Still won't be happy.

The Wings could have the All-NHL team for pete's sake.

Next offseason I'm thinking Holland will be looking for a top 6 forward and a dman. Parise would fit in perfectly for around $6M and hopefully Holland can make a trade for Weber or Doughty or simply sign Suter and 1-2 more solid dmen to replace Lids.

I would be very happy with next offseason if the Wings let go of Commodore and sign Suter + another solid dman (better than commodore) and then pickup Parise/Semin/a different top 6 forward.
