Semin under Babcock and Datsyuk = top 5 player in the league.

That's the hope, anyway. If there's any team that can get the most out of Semin (who isn't the Caps), it's the Red Wings. They're also the team that I think would have the least trouble re-signing him.

You guys keep Pavelski and don't think about Semin. Cap's fun not sleeping just dreaming about Pavelski. Comme on!

Babcock is one of the best coaches in the league but he's not a miracle worker.

Sharks don't need to trade Pavelski ... especially not for a midget and a mule that's on it's last leg.

Does he command the respect of his players and know how to set plays?

if i was wash i would absolutely give up perrault semin and a 2nd for pavelski.. they would be scary come playoff time. everyone knows semin completely disappears in the playoffs, whereas pavelski becomes more valuable. the caps are looking for a cup right now, which validates giving up a young player and a second. Not to mention perrault might be squeezed out of the lineup anyways, and they just got what i think will be a high 1st and second round pick from col, improving on their first and second round picks that would be gone

Of course he does. But he has no patience for a guy like Semin that doesn't put 100% effort into every shift.

Last leg that's hilarious. Franzen played 76 regular season games and 8 playoffs games last season. Oh no he's done Go back to the Sharks board so you can talk with the other Sharks fans on how THIS is the year they're going to finally win the cup

He puts in about as much as the average DRW player.

Yeah you'd rather sign 3th-4th line players right?

Detroit's 3rd and 4th line are already good enough. I would rather Detroit get a player that performs well in the playoffs and brings effort ever shift. Also Semin can never stay healthy and we have enough trouble keeping our players healthy every year without adding another injury case.

Babcock doesnt tolerate players like Semin.

You act like Semin is terrible in the playoffs when he has 30 points in 37 games. That's pretty good for a guy "who doesn't perform well in the playoffs".

Oh yeah and those 3rd/4th lines really showed how good they were these past two playoffs eh?

The 3rd and 4th lines werent the reason Detroit lost in the playoffs. Detroit didnt get enough from their top 6 and San Jose's top 6 was better.

Personally I would never want to risk Babcock getting a chance with Semin, if he turned Bertuzzi into the player he is now I would absolutely loathe to see Semin dominating alongside Datsyuk.

San Jose definitely got the better bounces in that series... and the Wings couldn't finish.

Make Perrerault either Knuble or Chimera if this deal does happen. But this doesn't happen so whatever.

If you like Chimera, what about...

Joe Pavelski

Alexander Semin
COL 2nd 2013 if Semin doesn't sign

Valtteri Filppula
Jason Chimera
DET 2nd 2012

Filppula has also had playoff success, and plays C.

So the Wings give up one of the league's best power forwards in exchange for a lazy locker-room cancer who is on the last year of his contract. No thanks.

Congratulations on the dumbest post of the thread. I take it you do not watch the Red Wings play much.

LOL, OK. So now Hudler and Bertuzzi are "the average DRW player." I think your math needs work. Whatever the case, Bertuzzi is not lazy. He works pretty hard. He has almost always worked hard, even when he wasn't with Detroit; apparently you've forgotten that he was once the premiere power forward in the league. Now he's got further incentive because he's near the end of his career, is with a contender, and wants to win a Cup before hanging up his skates.

Datsyuk has always worked hard.

Semin is a locker-room cancer. Locker-room cancers do not find their way onto the Wings. Further, playing under Babcock isn't going to change Semin's mind. He's going to get paid regardless. If you want an example of a similar player, look to Zherdev. He played under Hitchcock, Tortorella and Laviolette, three of the most demanding coaches around, and he didn't improve a whit.

You get an A+ in the category of talking out your ass.
