How much would you guys be willing to give up for this kid?

I'd think hartnell/carle + a 1st +

...idk, the idea of :

JvR(22) Couturier(18) Paajarvi(20)

scares the **** out of me.

edit: for discussion sake here is a better example,
Voracek + Coburn/Bobrovsky + 1st

If you could get MPS for Carle + first, I would help pack carle's bags for him.

I doubt Carle 1st gets it done but if that is all it would take I would do it in a heartbeat. Either way I dont think EDM is close enough to being a contendor to start trading away young forward assets for mid aged Dmen

JVR or Couturier would have to go the other way, so keep on dreaming on that one.

Oilers would laugh in our faces if we offered them Hartnell or Carle

Haha. I don't think EDM does it unless we throw in some bad-decent prospects. Too bad Klotz is no longer in the fold, otherwise I think it would be a done deal.

Turn your dismay into a hooray, we re-signed Klotz.

edit- I thought we did, but it seems I'm wrong.

It's time like these that I wish we had a second round choice to throw into the deal...

With Coburn, Carle and Meszaros all #3-#4 dmen we can afford to part with one. If Coburn plus the 2nd we got from LA would get it done then I'd be all over it. I'd be a little reluctant to trade away our 1st this year because I think we'll be picking somewhere between 15 and 20 and we should still get a damned good player at that pick (probably pretty close to as good as MPS will be).

However, we really don't need another top 6/potential top 3 forward prospect, what we REALLY need is a #1/#2 defensive prospect or young player. Coburn plus Bob for OEL would be a better use of assets IMO.

I don't know...... What if Pronger goes down? I'm not confident in Timonen and Pronger staying healthy the whole year.

I'm not willing to part with Carle, Meszaros or Coburn this season unless were getting a better defenseman in return.

You guys are starting to sound like Leafs fans. The Oilers are not trading MPS for Coburn or Voracek or anyone and a pick. That would be highway robbery. Only way the Flyers would get him is by overpaying and sending a ridiculous package like Giroux and JvR. They have a home-run player in Paajarvi, they don't want a mid level defenseman or forward and a mid to late first round pick for him. Would you take Shawn Horcoff and a pick for JvR or Giroux? Absolutely not. Edmonton is not going to accept a similar package for a prospect with an arguably higher ceiling than those two.

I don't think the Oilers would trade him, but he hasn't proven anything yet either. He's never going to be worth Giroux or JVR anyway.

Have you ever seen this guy play in the NHL or other leagues? The kid is going to be pretty damned good, especially when the other players around him start to develop. He hasn't proven anything because he was only 19 his first season. He had 30+ points on a bad Oilers team in his first season. I'd be willing to bet that when all is said and done Paajarvi is AT LEAST as good as Giroux or JvR. If nothing else, at this point his ceiling is at least as high as theirs. Certainly high enough that a mid level player and mid-late first round pick would not pry him from the Oilers.

I used JvR and Giroux as comparable players in the previous post, but maybe that isn't really fair because Giroux and JvR have more than one season under their belts. So imagine someone suggesting the Flyers trade Couturier or Schenn for a 2nd line forward or 2nd pairing defenseman and a first round pick. That person would be ridiculed. Oilers are not trading this guy and if they are it will only be for an overpayment.

voracek and horcoff have vastly different trade values...

i get what your saying, but i think its somewhere between voracek and couturier (plus the first). I just dont know who else we got that fits in between those two (value wise)

Voracek + BOB + 1st (i know im REALLY sounding like a leafer now lol)

but wouldnt edmonton like a goalie?

im just saying between Hall, Eberle, and Hopkins, edmonton is more open to trading away a young valuable forward like MPS than most teams...

MPS is overated and we would have to give up too much to get him. I don't want him anyway, I watched him last year in Edmonton, nothing special IMO.

His speed and grit never jumped out at me. Like when you watched Eberle and Hall you said to yourself now these guys are going to be stars in the NHL. MPS outside of the Pre-season never showed me that "wow" factor like those two. Maybe in a year or two he will be better who knows. But as of right now we really don't need him A. B, it would take alot to get him out of Edmonton.
