They may have two second rounders this season depending on Florida's choice.

If this draft is as deep as they are predicting you would think the panthers would be using their second this year right?

I'm thinking if they finish in the playoffs, no matter what round they lose in, they will let the Flyers take this year's pick. If not, they give up the next one. However, the draft after the 1st round maybe round and a half isn't very deep.

There's still time to get rid of them.

I'd love for Homer to somehow get a second first, and draft defense/defense with both of em. He'll probably trade our first for Geoff Sanderson

All I know is, our first round pick SHOULD be a #1/#2 d-man. Hopefully big (6' 1" to 6' 4") and shoots right.

If we could get another first, I'd say it would have to involve a player that would have a contract at least through 2012-13. Or we could use our first to draft higher if possible.

Since Holmgren has taken over the GM role in the 06/07 season he's traded away five 1st rnd picks plus 2 previous 1st rnd pick players before they even play half a season with us, six 2nd rnd picks and seven 3rd rnd picks over just 6 draft classes (including this coming one that has yet to happen). For those eighteen picks and 2 players we traded away we have Pronger, Timonen (signed as a UFA), Hartnell (signed as a ufa), Matt Carle, Andrej Meszaros, and Ilya Bryzgalov (signed as a UFA) to show for it. We traded for an entire top 4 defense and a top end goalie though we COULD have signed 3 of those pieces without trading anything if we weren't so goddamned impatient.

To play devils advocate, we COULD have the following if we DIDN'T make all those trades: Jonathon Blum (future #2/3 dman), John Carlson (top pairing young dman), Steve Downie (32 pts in 57 games or about 45 pts over a full season, certainly better than ****ing Carcillo), Scottie Upshall, Lucas Sbissa, John Moore (future 2nd pairing dman, 7.5 prospect), Emerson Etem (future 1st/2md line RW, 8.0 prospect), and Stuart Percy (a future 2-way 2nd pairing dman) and this is just the 1st rnd players we gave up. We don't even know yet if any of the 2nd or 3rd rnd picks will surprise everyone and turn out to be quality NHL players.

Just think about this, we could still have Timonen, Hartnell and Bryzgalov, remove just Carle, Meszaros and Pronger and we'd add back in ALL of Blum, Carlson, Sbissa, Moore and Percy on defense and Upshall, Downie and Etem to the offense. We'd be looking something like this:

Hartnell - Briere - Voracek
JVR - Giroux - Downie
Upshall - Schenn - Simmonds
(who cares, it's the 4th line)

Timonen - Coburn
Sbissa - Carlson
Blum - Gustafsson

Bryz & Bob

Upshall and Downie replace Jagr and Nodl in the top 9. Carleson, Sbissa and Blum replace Pronger, Meszaros and Lilja on defense. The only place we downgrade right now is in exchanging Pronger for Carlson but that won't be the case in the very near future.

And for those keeping score at home with the cap implications, we could have a full 22-man roster and STILL have over 7 mil in cap space with the above roster. IMO, this lineup isn't any worse than the one we will be iceing this year, we wouldn't have had to just give away Gagne for nothing so we could have kept him is we wanted, and in addition to having just Couturier as a top quality prospect in our cupborads we'd have Etem as a 1st or 2nd line RW (far far better than anything we have after Couturier) and Moore and Percy both who should develope to be no less as good as Gustafsson and probably even better than him.

Ok, I'm done ranting about just how bad Holmgren had ****ed this team over the years in his inept attempts to win a cup. I won't do this again until the beginning of next season after which he has again traded away our future for another ill-fated run at a cup that ends in dissaster.

Oh, and just for the record, I don't believe he makes all these moves on his own, I DO believe that Snider "encourages" him to make many of these and all of this in spite of the fact that Ed Snider himself got up there on TV and announced to the entire Flyers nation that we as a team were finished trading away picks and prospects for cup runs. LOL, and to think that many of us (myself included) actually believed his ********. The joke is on us.
