My wife was born in Montreal, she is no where near French nor is any of her family that still lives there.
Just to clarify, Matthew Lombardi grew up in Hudson, QC which is just a bridge away from the West Island of Montreal, a very English part of the island. Hudson is also predominantly Anglophone (65% according to wikipedia) but a lot of the residents are bilingual.
As far as I know Lombardi is an Anglophone. My brother-in-law actually used to be the lifeguard at the pool where Lombardi swam while growing up (lame as far as hockey connections go, I know). Anyway, hopefully he recovers well. Would be nice to see a local guy succeed, but also just for his own health.

You are correct sir. I used to know him personally, (went to school with him, his brother and sister who are both older than him). His pops is Italian and his mom is either Irish or Scottish (she passed away recently) I hope he can make a difference on the Leafs and take em to the playoffs!
It's ok, I'm a huge AC fan (which my friends and family back home hate) so I don't mind Northeners. I've been to Milan several times and I've grown accustomed to their nature

Whatever Lombardi is, thanks for the clarification from those who know him (cool to know his dad is Italian- I figured as much but didn't know). I have a lot of respect for Matt and what he's been through, I really hope he can pull through completely and get his career back on track.
