Fife have returned to the top league in British hockey.

Fife Flyers are now the oldest hockey team in the league formed in 1938 they beat the Panthers by 8 years.

Well, when (if) I move to Britain in the future, I think I'm going to need a hockey team to support.

It's a shame everything looks so expensive and difficult over there. I'm not saying it's exactly cheap anywhere, but you guys don't seem to have the essential hockey culture that the "big" countries have. I think you'd need to market ice hockey more in children's events and such, to get them interested. It would be a cool introduction to school's PE program as well during wintertime.

My hometown team the Swindon Wildcats have been running a "learn to skate program" for the past few years where kids from the local schools come out onto the ice with players from the team, and also schools are invited to come and watch the games, and sometimes do kids go free deals. However, I don't think many other clubs do this sort of thing to any extent

Great to see hockey fans in the UK!

I've recently moved to the UK (near Portsmouth) and would love to take my boyfriend to a game. I know the quality will probably be terrible compared to the NHL but I think it would be fun to catch a game and see how the locals react to it.

Any suggestions for teams near Southampton/Portsmouth?

There are the solent devils who are based in Portsmouth, they are in division 2 which is the 4th tier of british hockey, and the lowest level of league hockey before recreational.

If you want to see a slightly better standard you could take the ferry across to the isle of wight to watch the wightlink raiders who play in division 1.

The best standard of hockey you could watch that is within a reasonable distance is in basingstoke, which is about an hours drive from portsmouth, their team the basingstoke bison play in the premier league, which is the 2nd tier of british hockey. This league is a decent standard and each team is allowed 4 imports (typically czech/slovaks and some canadians) and is a fairly competitive league where all the teams are capable of beating each other

Basingstoke Bison! The Buffalo Sabres should have an affiliation with them.

Awesome, caught the Devils game last night, along with the legends game before the main game

After the game I got Hilton Ruggles autograph (my fave player for years now)
Vezio Sacratini, shook my hand, i think he miss took me for someone else and Shannon Hope (Devils director of hockey) was looking for a beer in my pocket!!!!

Over all a random night! Enjoyed myself hugely, love how close you can get to the players in British Hockey!

in their first regular season game Nottingham Panthers win 6-1 at home after going behind against Cardiff Devils

And Sheffield Steelers won at home, against the Belfast Giants in a shoot out after being tied at 1 after OT

----

Panthers travel to Cardiff tonight

I would suggest a weekender trip to Belfast or Scotland. You get to sightsee a bit and catch a EIHL game as well. It can be done quite cheaply via Ryanair and Travelodge fares and makes a great long weekend. I've done it a few times.

Really surprised with the 10 - 1 result. I know Coventry sorta dropped off last season, but they were still contenders at least.

New to the HF boards as you can see. I'm a Steelers fan, I'll be at the Dundee match on saturday, can't wait, really like the look of the line up Finnerty has put together.

First game of the Premier league season tomorrow. Really looking forward to seeing a game that counts.

Promising results in preseason, now want to see how quickly this team gel.

Go Bison

As you can see from logo in the avatar it is based around an old Sabres logo.

Saw the steelers sail to a 6-0 victory over hull on saturday, brilliant play, the first and last goals were top notch.
I was going to buy a jersey but I'm a bit disappointed with them this year, they're made by rhino this year, so all the patches and number are printed directly on to the jersey and the material is a bit cheap.

Hi Alan, where in Nottingham do you live? I'm from Sawley but originally from Derby.

Not been into hockey long (last season) but managed to get to the Devils, Stingrays, Blaze and Clan home games already this season

Will be buying Steelers tickets ASAP!!

How ironic is the fact that I always was a Montrealer and player of the game and yet I'd trade places with you guys any day of the week. I've had the biggest ''fetish'' for Britain (especially England) for longeer than I care to remember. Be it movies, TV, music, sports, I love everything British.

Anyone wanna swap?
