I don't think we would be. Budaj never worked with a full-time goalie coach in Colorado, and now he gets to work with Pierre Groulx full-time. He also posted 15-21-4 record on a 29th place Colorado team. Bring in Jacques Martin's defensive system and a full-time Goalie coach and Budaj's numbers can only improve. So here's the question. Where will we finish in the worst situation happens, and how much faith do you have in Budaj?

If Price wen tdown for 20 games, what would happen, adn what would be Budaj's record..? How many starts would Lawson/Call-ups get?

For a temporary time budaj could help, however, on the long run we would be screwed....but it is like any other team that has a clear cut number one. Where do you see buffalo without Miller?

Budaj isn't a starting goalie material, he's good for a backup role, his tehnique is really good and he understands how to play goalie, but his athleticism is his downfall, and you can't teach that.

Unless we trade for another goalie... yeah we're pretty much screwed. Thankfully plenty relatively good goalies are available for the right price. I'm talking guys who aren't quite good enough to be a #1 but are better than most backups.

That or young guys on teams that have a solid #1.

Looking back at how many games he had to steal, as well as the games were he played a huge part when standing on his head, the answer would have to be yes. Without Price, the Montreal Canadiens are not a playoff team.

Any team that loses it's number 1 goalie for a prolonged period of time, is toast.....Miller, Thomas, Price, Luongo, etc and so on....

You can get your backup to hold the fort so to speak for 10-12 games, but 30-40 games without a number 1 is bleak...not just the Habs, but every team...

it would seriously cripple us, but in Budaj we do have a guy who was able to play well enough to win 30 games on a team that wasn't exactly stacked defensively...

with Martin as the coach, and assuming we were very healthy otherwise, I could see the team still be in the playoff fight even if we lost Price for a long stretch.

that said, the likelihood is that without Price, we'd end up in lottery pick range.

Yes. I wouldn't mind if that happened and we ended up top 5 in the draft. I would really like Grigorenko.

This year Im not enticed by the idea of a top 10 pick- With the return of a healthy Markov, Gorges and Pacioretty, coupled with an older Subban/Price and a stronger understanding of individual roles... I expect us to go deep, very deep.

(To answer the question, yes, we're done. I dont expect him to get injured though, hes a thoroughbred)

Always been the same here in Montreal, if the goalie doesn't perform well we are screwed. Budaj would have to come in and steal the show(play like Huet-Halak) It's possible but I doubt it, if Price goes down so does the rest of the team

I would mind it a ****ing lot if it happened. You know you can go back cheering for another team if you don't mind seeing Price injured. How about Subban breaking an ankle and Markov with a shattered jaw?! You wouldn't mind those either maybe?!?

Man, the stupid things you read on these boards...

Nope. We would probably still make the playoffs somehow.

If it's for 5, or so games, then we won't even miss him, leading people to believe we can trade Price for a major upgrade on forward, but if it's 10+ games we're ****ed.

Depends how long he goes down for. They could hold the fort for a month or so I think without him.

Cue the "we should have kept Cedric Desjardins" ramblings in about 30 seconds.

I would think it would have the same effect losing Crosby and Malkin had on Pittsburgh. It would depend on when he's out and for how long.

I think it could depend on "when" he would go down. If he'd be injured early in the season I'd be nervous because the D wouldn't quite be sorted out and / or comfortable and / or in shape depending on who the d-man is in question. LOL

And the backup wouldn't be settled into a backup role and would be thrown into the fire that is Montreal right away.

If Price would be injured later on after the team has had a chance to play together and find their roles I think they'd be in better shape.

Injuries early on to any one of Subban, Markov, Plekanec or Price could be very hurtful IMO.

Pretty sure everybody thought we'd be dead after Markov and Gorges went down, including me, last year.
If there's anything I learned from our two past seasons is to not doubt this Habs team. They have character through the roof.

if Price goes down with an early season ending injury, then yes, the team is toast. Same can be said with alot of teams and their #1 goalies, though.

Budaj has shown flashes of being good, but he's not consistent enough to carry the full time load. Gautheir would have to do some magic on the trade market to keep the team afloat.

We'd be fine. We'd probably trade for a short term replacement. I'm not saying Price is overrated, but our team plays a fine defensive system.

I agree that Price's contributions to the team have been slightly embellished. I'm of the mind that if it seems that every year the Habs get solid goaltending they're either doing something right as a team or they have little trouble finding goalies.

That being said, few teams can survive for extended periods of time without their starter.
