It's so funny that everyone feels as if they know players. I have met the kid and can tell you he is definitely not cocky. I know Bateman had no problems, let me repeat NO PROBLEMS with reporting to Niagara! His agent is the one that actually initiated the ice time issue.

I think this is a good deal for both teams. Obviously his agent is looking out for the best for his agency and his client. Although playing in Niagara would be good, I agree he wouldn't see any ice, after all they are contending for the Memorial Cup. It's a better situation for Bateman in Windsor plus Niagara will get to rebuild with their picks.

Seems like you're putting up a smoke screen to hide the fact that this was about a guarantee for ice time and not about education.
I could honestly care less about why he decided to ask for a trade (or have it agreed to), I have no specific personal interest in the player. I do have an issue with people calling 16 year olds selfish or otherwise anonymously on a message board, expecially when they have no knowledge of the player or the situation. Doesnt matter who that player is, if hes only 15-16, then ill happily stick up for him.

I wish i had the link, but there was an artcle in the St. Catharines Standard weeks after the draft where Williamson said specifically that Bateman was not a player that they had identified, but that he was too good to pass up. It was also reported in that article that he could be a 'valuable asset in January'. That, coupled with Williamson trading everything of value back in Barrie when they went for it (all 16 and 17 year olds where traded - Ryan Strome, Ryan O'Connor, Michael Sgarbossa, etc), seemed to have put the writing on the wall. I had heard seperately from that article that he looked at Bateman as an asset.

Good luck to your son in training camp.

Agree 100 percent. Ive heard nothing but good things from Bateman. Its to bad that people use this forum as a way to put down players that they have never met, nor take the time to meet.

The kid didn't want to be buried on a stacked team. He wasn't pulling the NCAA card to try and influence to certain teams. By the sounds of it he would have went to any team. Can't fault the kid for wanting to develop. You don't develop by sitting on the bench/in the stands.
But he wasn't drafted by them. I guess that's why you said "technically".

So every kid drafted by a strong team should now demand a trade for "development" reasons.

It all depends on the kid. Some kids would be more than happy to ride coattails on a veteran team for a season or two to get the experience from the older guys. Bateman obviously didn't want to ride shotgun and wanted playing time. Every kid is different and each situation will be different.

This trade works out for both teams. Bateman gets to go to a rebuilding Windsor team where he'll be part of the core players and will see all the ice time he could ask for while Niagara gets more assets to use to ad to their current roster and get the comp 1st round pick next year to help with the rebuild.

I don't think I put him down at all. I just don't like "kids" demanding ice time. This probably goes back to my days in the Sault when Lindros refused to report because of "poor" education standards. Kids should just be happy to get traded in the first place, never mind making demands.

Anyway, I really hope he has a good career in Windsor. It's a great hockey town.

That post was not directed at you, at least the putting down part anyways, it was to the poster who decided to call him a joke.

Im always happy to have an intellegent debate, which you provide. My frustration is for those who make it so personal, and to attack those who

1. Are not on here to defend themeslves.
2. Are under the age of 18

Either way, I agree, its a win win for all involved.
