jagr for kovalev would still be a MAJOR salary dump...jagr's remaining contract is 6 years, $66 mil...kovalev's is 1 year, $6.5 mil

and the caps are going to have to take a salary back because even the rangers can't afford to take on jagr's full salary...

the rumors i've heard is that sather doesn't really want jagr so he is demanding that either the caps take holik's salary in return OR they take Kaspar's salary AND throw in witt for nothing

the caps have absolutely zero leverage on this deal

Problem for Washington...

if they trade for Kovalev is that he becomes UFA at season's end (ethough there will never be hockey again). I'd think Washington's return would be under 30, cheap-type players. Of course it's unreasonable to think that anybody out there would trade for a guy with that type of contract today, but I don't think they'd want to be stuck with nobody to show for Jags after this season.

Are you really sure about that?

I would only touch Jagr if Holik was going the other way.... and maybe Kaspar as well. Why trade Maladog when his contract will be up anyway?

Probably getting too crazy but....

NYR: Jagr - Lang - Witt

Wash: Holik - Kaspar - Carter

They are looking to dump Lang and Jagr - we would like to be rid of Kaspar and Holik. We then add Carter for Witt to sweeten the pot. Nedved is also a UFA after this season (I think) so Lang would just be taking his spot.

Again, this is off the top of my head so it'll probably be shot down right away but what the heck... I'd do it.

Holik_______ $24/3 years
Kasparitus__ $22/5 years
total_______$46/4 years

Jagr________$55/5 years

they're better off keeping Jagr since they're not really dumping any salary

That would make no sense though. Gettin desperate to move him would only mean they'd take a bag of pucks for him or they'd atleast help out with the salary, not add on more money % then what they already have.

They should have thought of that when they signed him. I seriously doubt that anyone will do them any favors. They are going to have to take at least one big contract veteran back to get anyone to even consider taking Jagr.

I agree that no one will do them any favors and they'll likely have to take on a big contract themselves but offering Holik and Kasparitus would mean more money goes back their way, why would they do that.

Then they should just say no and keep Jagr. Please note that I didn't suggest that they would trade for both Holik and Kaspar, although I suspect that if there is a trade involving Jagr and the Rangers that one of those players will be going back in the deal. Along with some other large contract that doesn't have much more time to run.
