This just makes me angry. Being a leafs and preds fan it hit me twice as hard. Too many hockey players are going down. What's going on? This is terrible.

He had so much to look forward to. Had the battle of the blades tv show along with being part of our broadcast crew. Must be accidental.

What the hell!!????

RIP Wade. Far to young for a guy with a bright future ahead of him after hockey and a young family.

I think Leaf and Preds fans are all sad to see this news today. I'm glad to see he was as loved in Nashville as he was in Toronto.

RIP Wade Belak. You will be missed.

I'm tired of hearing "Oh, 3 enforcers in 4 months" or whatever people are saying. I don't care. Neither do the families, friends, and fans of Belak or the others. When I think of Belak I think of an ambassador to hockey in Nashville although he was pretty much as Canadian as they come. I remember an awesome guy who loved his role on the team. RIP.

Terrible news for his family, his friends, his fans, his former teammates and off-ice colleagues, and really for the entire world. Such a great guy. Even with the Boogeyman and Ripper, I never thought I would hear this about Belak.

Get some sleep, big guy. You'll be missed, but I do hope you found whatever comfortable you sought.

Thanks.

I picked this up from the Belak thread on the Leafs' forum. I wanted to share it with you all. Be warned. It is extremely sad now, but it does show his beautiful family and his awesome personality.

edit: video fixed

Just can't believe it. I was sure he'd have a great future in retirement with the Preds. Just such a great ambassador for the game.

Suddenly my biology study guide seems so insignificant....

the sad part of this is not that we lost a great comedian or that the NHL lost an ambassador. It's that two little girls now have to grow up with no father. This is one of those moments where you realize that while these people super-humanly talented, they are all too human off the ice. They have kids. They have wives. They're mortal, normal people just like us. It's just a lot to take in.

My thoughts and prayers to Belak's family.

That was exactly the video I thought of when I heard the news today. He has two young children.

An obituary written by Nashville Post writer J.R. Lind that sums up what and who Wade Belak was. It's very well done. Brought me to smile, chuckle, and cry all at the same time...

So it's a suicide now? I didn't think his death could get worse...

That is purely speculation from the media. I have not seen any confirmed report of the cause of death, nor do I truly care about that tonight.

We lost one hell of a man today...

Sorry if I reported something that may not be true. Just what I read on another website but I have removed it.

There has been speculation as to what caused his death, but for now it's just that. Speculation. Not that it matters, because this is a heavy blow to our community and that of the sport regardless of circumstances. We'll know for sure by the end of the week unless a tox screen is necessary. At that point we might not know until Monday or Tuesday. Personally, I'm not sure I care to know. It won't make anything any better.

What really struck me is a tweet that I believe SLake retweeted. Belak's family found out through media reports. There really needs to be more accountability in our media. Media outlets should try to make sure the immediate family has been informed before breaking news of a person's death. Sometimes it simply is unavoidable, but in this instance it wasn't.

I know I'm not a moderator, so I apologize if this comes across as me acting like one. Can people please refrain from posting speculation on cause of death? The "update" above has been tossed around for hours now. As far as I know there is no factual basis for it as of yet.
