very alarming. seems that the enforcer really is a dying breed in the new nhl. but seriously- very sad.

I've said this time and time again that people have NO IDEA how tough a job these guys had to do in the NHL.

Calling them "goons" or whatever is a terrible insult.

RIP Wade.

Really tough news to hear, especially when someone dies at 35.

R.I.P. Wade.

Rest in Peace Wade...

Got to wonder how many more players in and out of the game are struggling with psychological issues. The League and PA have to find ways for players to open up about this subject. With depression as with addiction, a big step on the right path is acknowledging and accepting that you have a problem and getting help. Depression can affect anybody. It just takes a ******** of effort to accept it and talk about it.

You have to feel for a lot of the families right now whose son, nephew or whatever used to play that role....Some might wonder who's next....

RIP indeed.

Add to that John Kordic (years ago) and Bob Probert

All is not well in the NHL.

Steve Simmons is a dumbass. No one knows anything and he's trying to get a news break. Then when people call him out on it he backtracks. It's such a ****** reporter thing to do and I bet he does the same in hockey.

Add the fact that EVERYBODY knows our own Chris Nilan was on the verge of doing it for all these years now. He's moving to Montreal (I heard Fontainebleau, near where I live), so let's hope he gets better.....But Knuckles has had A LOT of moments of depression.

Some food for thought from two former fighters:

dingdish Chris Dingman
When your done, your left to let ponder, what do I do with, myself now? Tough to ponder... More needs to be done to ease the transition.

People think sports, and most just see a lifestyle. It is really hard mentally and physically. Especially hard when your done.

Hard for people to understand but retirement is the hardest thing a player will ever go through. Nothing can prepare u for it.

I don't want to speculate but he was always happy, and funny in interviews or appearances he made on television. He was starting a radio show I believe soon, and was lined up to be on Battle of the Blades this summer so it doesn't seem like something that would have been stirring for a while(if it was suicide).

A lot of young (relatively) hockey players dying in the last 10 years.

I don't remember Belak being much of an enforcer. He had a few seasons in Toronto where he had 100+ PIMs, but most of the time he just played that role of 13th forward.
