I like hits. I dominated that with guys like Benn and Callahan who really don't take all that many penalties (as I'm sure you're aware).

What really sucks about +/- is when it's getting toward the end of the game and your guy is on the team that's trailing and so of course he's out on the ice trying to tie it up because he's one of their best players and then bam, empty netter, welcome to minustown.

I thought I'd end up hating GWG, but it was actually kinda fun. Not the end of the world to have a little randomness in the mix, plus as you said it helps teams that score more goals, which I think is inherently more important than a lot of the other stuff.
I like GWG. Important in a real game; good for fantasy too.

Faceoffs won is the only other stat from that list I'd be interested in adding. The problem is that if you add too many skater stats it starts de-emphasizing goalies too much and there really aren't any other good goalie stats.

I like the faceoff win stat too. However, I don't agree that adding it excessively stresses offensive skater categories.

One way to look at it is just 2 goalies going after 5 stat categories versus 10/13 skaters' contributions to 10-11 categories. So 5 times as many players affecting twice as many stats. Having good goalies will still be very important. Even with GWG+Faceoffs, I'd still value a top flight goalie more than a top skater.

We should ask... "What would Razor do?" He hates +/-... so do I.

That's a brilliant idea someone submit "what are the best fantasy stats" to Razor and see if he blogs about it

Looks like I logged in at a good time, of course I'll be up for this.

I liked the stats as they were last year, maybe with removing hits just because I ended up focusing my draft on it, bad idea!

Right now we've got 10 returning and 14 new. If that holds we should probably just randomize.

Yahoo fantasy is up for the season, so we can create the leagues. If we're still randomizing let me know who's in my pool and I'll create my league. Or if we're doing Newbies/Oldies let's figure it out.

I vote newbies/oldies, but I don't really care. I just want people that I know will play for more than just the first couple weeks. It sucks having people that sign up then don't play.

We could fudge it by having older members that have been around like Dallasman and Dave Karp in the returning league.

I guess it's not a huge deal if the numbers don't match.

Alright alright I'll work on getting the leagues up and going tomorrow. I'll have league assignments tomorrow as well.

Categories will stay the same, rosters will also stay the same, and we'll have two leagues of 12 initially. Invites will go out via PM to oldest registered and on.

Initial leagues have been ordered:

HFStars League A: piqued, Captain Awesome, Modo, Mr Momentum, TrueGrit, Hecantscorefromthere, Alistar, ReaallMunson18, ginblossoms, Bennrocks, chrissmith

HFStars League 1: Ampersand, Brand New Stars, StarsFanInCanada, hairylikebear, RTstars11, secretsquirrel, DaStars99, Dallasman, Cin, Vofty, Dave Karp

I don't know if Lobo and Caseman want to join this year, so I held off from including them.

UP has chosen to commish league A.

e1: Oh yes. Changes for this year actually include, 3 weekly transactions, no season max, draft pick trades, playoff re-seeding and 1 day trade rejection times.

e2: Invites for HFStars League 1 have been sent out.

Go to fantasy hockey home, click get another team, put in the number at the end of the link (league ID) and the pw, and that should work...

Hey, I let the pseudo-random number generator pick teams and UP pick which one he wanted.

Cuz I'm totally avoiding you AND Captain Awesome

Richards was like 60th last year. Somewhere between getting a concussion and moving to NYC he jumps 40 spots. Makes sense.

Pavelski, Havlat, FRANZEN above Loui? God these are horrible.

Really surprised they ranked Kari so high. Above Halak and Roloson is surprising.

Still missing one person from League A.. not sure who as I have no idea who's who. Gonna make a League A specific thread for the season later tonight where I'll get everyone's identity put in the OP. And we can start discussing stats and draft date etc.
