I'm sad for the Filosas etc. who just lost their jobs without much notice.

Traffic networks exists everywhere. Went to Europe in 2009, and found them everywhere on the airwaves.

What?

If you don't understand something a mod says in big, bold, scary letters, PM them for more information.

Every 5minutes on every radio channel they have an update on the traffic, pretty dumb decision to get rid of CKAC Sports.

Do we know who kept their jobs?

UPDATE : The contract is 4,5M over 3 years.

Like Villeneuve or not, I'm sure he gets ratings. Personally I think he's funny.

I think this all-traffic station fails and fails hard.

Every other radio station in this town already has traffic updates every 10-20 minutes during rush hour - morning and afternoon.

Unless there are somehow cameras on every single foot of road in the Montreal area (and that's certainly not the case), then this all-traffic station will not have up-to-the minute updates on accidents, new traffic jams, etc. It's just impossible.

So chances are you'll get the same info from them right around the same time you would get the info from any other station. Brilliant.

Pierre Trudel
@Martin_02 Villeneuve ne sera pas en ondes avant 18h30 je crois. Détails à suivre auj.

lol...

what a knee jerk reaction to how much the government let the road system slip.

There is no need for this station because you can sum it up like this "beteween 6am to 8pm, there is a lot of traffic everywhere, and if you live on the south shore....good luck" End of transmission.

Cogeco is a public company, they are responsinble to their shareholders, and short term, this will make shareholders more money. Sad and true.

Cogeco has to be one of the worst most incompetent media company in the whole damn Province. Everything they touch turn to crap. Everytime to buy a company it NEVER gets better and they eventualy sell it realising they could not do anything with it because of their short signtness.

And with this traffic radio crap again the rest of the Province is getting punished for Montreal's short comings. No sport for you, rest of the Province because the big city has traffic problems.

My guess is that this contract + having to pay much less in salary (whoever tells you that the Champlain Bridge fell will likely cost a lot less than Villeneuve, Fournier, etc.) in the end leaves them with more money in their pockets. They will also move the most listened to shows/animators to some other of their stations, hopefully raising their ratings there.

I think their ratings must have been quite good enough (iirc they were doing pretty well when there was numbers given) and that the radio in itself was likely viable, it's just a business choice where they would get more money this way.

I think that the 9M contract is a big part of this, the traffic station on its own working only with their own money would not have been worth it, but now WE will pay for it with our tax money.
I hope there's a change in goverment in 2012 so the new goverment cancel the 9M contract. That would be beautiful.

If it's a small consolation, it will be on 567 on television.

I could be wrong though.

What's sad it's that it's our money that is used to kill our top sport station.

He will be in L'esprit d'équipe au 5 à 7 at TVA Sports. Not confuse with L'esprit sportif at CKAC

There was a show called "L'esprit sportif" on TVA Quebec before TVA Sports appear.

Like it or not, it was a fun station to have during the day at work. All great and fun to have people on TV...but it doesn't help the ones that work during the day....

As far as Team 990 is concerned, there is some great stuff out there...when they talk about sports. But there's A LOT of small talk as well à la Houde/Pedneault....
