No. That is more than $10 million in cap coming to the Kings. Also, value isn't there.

If the Kings would do it (which they don't), I'd rather trade Vanek and Leopold for Doughty than Spezza and Foligno.

There should be a Drew Doughty compendium. Side note, the Kings will not trade Doughty. He is simply too important.

Doesn't really work for Ottawa. The value is good, but there's little reason to open a hole at #1 C ro fill a hole at #1 D. I'd rather keep Spezza and ride it our with karlsson/Rundblad/Cowen.

The Kings also get hosed.

Let me say that as a Buffalo fan, this could make sense for the Sabres. (Kings fans, another matter, of course, and I think the plausibility of any three-way trade is very low, regardless of value.) Considering the two best players moving in and out of Buffalo, most Sabres fans would accept a Vanek for Spezza swap. A top six centered around Spezza and Roy would be sweet. As for the others, we're swapping the better player in Hecht for younger and cheaper in Nick (and maybe some family connection with Mark in the system right now), and the loss of a solid but unspectacular top four d-man. Grags could move in full-time into the top six, we could a league minimum vet as our 7th dman - sort of like what we had in Nolan Pratt a couple of years ago - and the extra salary cap breathing room could allow for the acquisition of a forward or dman at the deadline, depending on what our needs are.

The only potential sticking points are that (a) Sabres in "win now" mode may object to parting with more roster players than are coming back. I think it's still worth it. (b) Leopold was a key piece in getting Regehr to waive his NTC and come here, so turning around and trading him right afterward seems like bad form. Sekera makes more sense for the Sabres - the recipient team may or may not agree, depending on whether they want the vet who's better right now but older and more injury-prone, and likely lower ceiling and (c) Kings probably won't trade Doughty no matter what. That last point is the most important and is probably why this won't ever go through, but it was a good effort nonetheless.

LOL and as soon I publish my essay, the OP goes and changes it so much my initial post loses all relevancy. Vanek and Morrisonn for Spezza and Foligno? Sign me up!

Now all we need is to get Lombardi really, really drunk.

Why not just take LA out of the equation?

Drew Doughty

Thomas Vanek
Shaone Morrisonn

Jason Spezza
Nick Foligno

The Kings are all for this trade.

This is what i thought too; "Most Sabres fans Would not trade Vanek for Spezza straight up." and personally i am 100% in that ballpark. However, Vanek and ShaMo for Spezza and Foligno is intriquing.

Doughty is amazing but not at the expense of losing Spezza... we need our 1C and we have a bunch of promising young defensemen.

It's already been said but I think it needs to be repeated. Makes no sense for Ottawa.

Personal Opinion..... Do not want Spezza....unless it's an absolute steal.

While it is pretty clear that Ottawa would not make this trade, one has to look at why.

They give Spezza, Rundblad and Foligno and get Doughty, Hickey, Morrison.

Now, Hickey is a fading prospect, and holds little value except for Bingo this year where he will be in competition for ice time with prospects like Boroweicki, Wiercioch and Gryba. Morrison, while decent, adds nothing over our current group of defensemen, and in fact just means that a guy like Carkner/Kuba is sent packing.

So the trade essential for Ottawa boils down to Spezza and Rundblad for Doughty, which given their age, contracts etc, is a little bit of a loss, but if Ottawa had a young center to take Spezza spot, would make sense....but they don't.

The trade improves the defense unit, at the cost of the forward unit. Ottawa is looking pretty good already behind their own blue line (futurewise), and need help up front.

I think that is pretty much why this trade does nothing to help Ottawa.

Spezza is better than Vanek in every way and is a center. Ottawa would not make that trade straight up.

As for the OP from the Sens' standpoint, the value is alright, but it leaves a huge hole at forward that the Sens cannot fill and will probably spend years trying to fill.

It makes Zero sense to move our best scoring winger for someone who produces close to Derek Roy (allbeit on a worse team) as we would have to then fill 1st line LW. Spezza is also not better than Vanek in EVERY way. The trade would never happen due to division rivalry.

From a personal stand point though, i severely dislike Spezza.

So you are biased.

The Sabres have lots of scoring wingers. Right now they are forced to play a guy who has only played the wing in NHL in Leino as a top 2 center. Having a Spezza-Roy combo down the middle would be awesome for them. So what if they lose their best LW? They have Leino, Ennis, Gerbe and possibly Hecht.
