Heading down to Columbus in 2 weeks for the Union/Crew game. Any recommendations for a good breakfast/brunch place on Sunday before hitting the road?

Skillet in German Village has a tremendous weekend brunch. Prices are in the $10-12 range. Menu varies by what is in season.

Skillet

I've been there for linch during the week, GVBJ, but I've avoided the weekend fearing the wait. Any advice on a good time to go?

Ya, I probably should have put in a warning that the place is tiny so seating can be an issue. Generally, the earlier you go the better. If you go before 11AM you should be OK. After that, there may be a wait, but the turnover generally seems to be quick. Since I live fairly close, I will usually just get the order to go if there is any wait. The regular lunch/dinner menu is always good, but their pancakes and their version of biscuits and gravy are by far the best I have ever had and are definitely worth any wait that you may need to endure.

Worst case scenario, if the wait is too long and it is after 11AM, you can always go to Lindey's for their brunch which is also extremely good, although not quite at the same level as Skillet.

Thanks for the recommendation. We're early risers so getting there before 11 won't be a problem.

Katalina's in Victorian Village/Harrison West is another good spot (if it's closer to where you're staying). The wait Sunday morning wasn't too bad last week- got a table immediately and waited ~20min for food (which is a long wait for the restaurant).

I'm staying at the Doubletree at 50 S. Front Street.

Since I'm travelling with a 5 year old I think Katalina's will be the ticket since it looks to have more of a child friendly menu than Skillet.

Thanks!

Oh, yeah, there's also a little video that is finally done, and will be shown at CannonFest.

I had the best grilled cheese and tomato soup of my life at Skillet, so don't let the menu scare you off! That said, I'm sure Katalina's would be nice, too.

I haven't been to Skillet yet (don't head down to German Village much), but it looks really good. Katalina's also has a unique menu, so it's probably be best to check it out before going. I should also mention Katalina's has a lot of outdoor seating but limited indoor seating- if the weather isn't favorable, Katalina's might not be the best choice.

Skraut, you've outdone yourself on those videos. Great job!!! Had a blast at CannonFest yesterday. Was great to see so many CBJ fans out for this event.

I found Katalina's breakfast menu to be unique, but still kid friendly. As of late, my son is on a taco kick, so I'm pretty sure that he'll go for the breakfast tacos (minus the hot sauce).

Just a quick mini-review. I'd highly recommend Katalina's.

The pancake "balls" were very good, as was the French toast and breakfast tacos. Looks like a great spot for lunch too.

I'm glad you liked it. I usually get the breakfast tacos, and they're always good. I'm not a huge fan of their bacon, but it is unique and most of my friends love it (sweet/syrup flavored).

I'm glad you reported back here, as I was looking for somewhere to walk for dinner tonight and I'd forgotten about Katalina's.

I can't believe I'm not going to this. Instead, the better half and some friends have me seeing Wicked in cincinnati.

Got to give to get, I guess. I promise to be down for the second road trip if there is one, though.

Preseason tickets for sale. I have a pair of tickets in sec 202 row e for the following games. Caps 9/21 and Wild 9/29 games. Face of these tickets is $88 a pair but I am only asking $40 obo per pair or trade for tickets to one of the other two preseason games.
