Oh my... awful. Not that it makes the news of that many people dying any better (a death is a death), but I do hope the entire team wasn't on it.

that was updated later to say one survivor.

it also said that even the injured players on the team were with them.

confirmed that there was a latvian on the plane, have to assume its Karlis.

Does anyone know

The procedures if an NHL team plane crashes? Dispersal draft or team folds? Or is there another scenario?

I know there is a provision for a disaster, its been discussed before.

I think there is a draft like the expansion drafts, no team losing more than one player, etc.

Yes, he did.

Skrastins wore #3, Dietrich wore #43, and Vasicek wore #63.

I was just getting on here to post a suggestion that the preds quietly "retire" the number 3....

Is it bad that my first thought was Marek Zidlicky needs to re-up his life insurance policy?

This summer has been awful. This is so sad and shocking.

RIP to all. I cant just cant imagine what it would be like if it was our team.

We all could use some good news for once this offseason.

Standards in Russia have always been sub-par when it comes to air travel and these type of things seem to happen more often than you would think. They really need to shape up their safety regulations. Hopefully this tragic loss will draw more attention, resulting in something being done about it. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of Pavol Demitra, and Igor Korolev, two great hockey players that were a part of my childhood, aswell as the families of the other players and staff that were aboard that plane. RIP.
