With the amount of plane crashes there has been over time, I'm kind of surprised that this and the Manchester United plane are the only 2 sports charters to ever go down. Unless I'm missing another one. Shows how safe flying is overall.

Several former NHL players on the flight too, many NHL teams lost at least one player.

There it is. RIP Vas and co
He also responded with "them too" when asked if coaching staff was onboard. Ugh.

If Vasyunov and Rachunek are dead, which seems all but certain now, they deserve their own thread. Let it stay.

The 1970 Marshall football team, the Chilean(?) rugby team. They made movies about them.

Very sad day.

What horrible thing is going to happen next? This has really been a horrific offseason. Let's hope this is the end and we can see some positive things happening soon.

i'm not sure if it will be a blessing or not for Galimov. yes, he survived, but i cannot begin to imagine how you cope with survival in such a case as this

Ruslan Salei, Karlis Skrastins, Pavol Demitra were all great players for their respective countries. RIP to them, Stefan Liv, Vasyunov, Rachunek and all of the others.

This is absolutely horrifying. Worst off-season in the history of hockey.

How I wish Vasyunov had chosen to stay in North America this year, instead of going back to the KHL.

I wonder if anything's crossed Lou's mind about Vas. He's a strong guy and surely couldn't have predicted it, but damn that's sth to ponder.

Nah - this is a major story, not a tidbit. It deserves it's own thread. I moved the other discussion to here.
