The death of a player is a tragedy. This is a nightmare.

I haven't seen a name yet that DOESN'T have some kind of NHL ties.

That picture is...terrible. That stuff floating in the water likely isn't just plane debris

It almost feels graphic and gratuitous, but it hits home for me a lot more than reading some words about what happened.

Mike Hurlbut to Quebec for Alexander Karpovtsev was one of Neil Smiths best trades as Rangers GM.

The only other plane crash involving a sports team that I can think of was the Munich air disaster in 1958 which involved the Manchester United soccer team, though I believe only 8 players were killed, one of the survivors was Bobby Charlton, considered one of the best to ever play the game

Yeah, isn't Artem best buds with Vasyunov?

This is terrible. And ESPN.com doesn't seem to care.

Absolutely tragic.

My heart just sunk into my stomach after reading those names.

May they all rest in peace. Just so many loved ones gone in one incident.

What an awful offseason.

RIP, all involved.

Gabby is having an unspeakably bad summer. First he loses one friend in Boogaard, and now Demitra, who he was also close with, dies too.

Yeah I remember reading something about them playing in Russia together and being friends, and how he wouldn't wear the same number as Vasyunov

[QUOTE=Jarkko Immonen;36494641]Yeah, isn't Artem best buds with Vasyunov?

Yes they were best friends.

"And then I wanted to take the number 24, because that’s my birthday. But my conscience wouldn’t allow it — my friend [Devil's prospect Alexander Vasyunov], with whom I played together for 7-8 years, wore that number. What to do? So took it and inverted it. And got 42."
