thats a heart breaking quote...
I can't imagine what we'd do if an NHL team's plane crashed. The whole city must be in complete shock right now. They had such hope for the start of a new season.

I wonder where the report that he wasn't on board came from. The false hope makes it even worse.

Still a lot of confusion regarding Salei

plysenkov Pavel Lysenkov
I was told that Galimov died in hospital. Salei is alive, he was in Minsk.

The Russian posters in the main board thread are saying that Galimov has died.

It is official now. Belarusian news agencies report that Ruslan Salei was on board the flight.

Reports now that the aircraft collided with an antennae after take-off. Pilot error gonna be the cause here if that's true (and it probably is as the pilots would have radioed in)

EDIT: IF (big if) Wikipedia can be believed, this is the 9th crash of this type of plane out of 178 total built, which at 5% seems pretty high. Also wouldnt be the first takeoff crash.
Those planes are garbage. 35+ year old Soviet-era flying death traps put together with string and glue and tape. There were no safety regulations in Soviet era, and the planes are much older now. I wouldn't get in one of those planes if you offered me millions of dollars.

What a tragedy. Players are lured by cash of the KHL but are literally putting their lives on the line.

So sad.

Devils GM Lou Lamoriello was not available for comment and agent Mark Gandler said he wasn't certain Alexander Vasyunov was on the plane.

These conflicting reports about Galimov and Salei are awful. I hope this isn't causing further distress or false hope for their families.

Neurologists are now saying Galimov (the player-survivor) is unlikely to survive his injuries even after the surgery. Docs keep fighting
