This has gone well past three. First we had the three fighters, Boogaard, Rypien, and Belak, then the Devils' staff members, and now we have an entire KHL team gone. The hockey gods must be counting Monty Python style.

This whole thing really puts life into perspective that hockey is only a game but even though we may not have personally known the players they still can affect us emotionally.

This is horrible. RIP to the entire Lokomotiv team. RIP to the families of Rachunek and Vasyunov.

Artem Anisimov lost his best friend, Vasunov.

Yes they were best friends.

"And then I wanted to take the number 24, because that’s my birthday. But my conscience wouldn’t allow it — my friend [Devil's prospect Alexander Vasyunov], with whom I played together for 7-8 years, wore that number. What to do? So took it and inverted it. And got 42."

As a Ranger fan, the rivalry seems so trivial right now. My condolences and prayers to all the friends, family, of the victims...also to the Devil's organization for the tragic loss.

No way. Not unless they were hauling gold bullion in the extra space. That plane was less than half capacity with the team on board. Only way they were over weight was if the runway they took off from was less than normal length and they had a full fuel load. That would keep them lower on rotation at takeoff and possibly explain the antennae being hit. Either way that's not being max weight for the plane, just over weight for the runway.

I don't think that's gonna happen to be honest - Vasy wasn't active on the roster after Zharkov who is the current 18 despite what the website has listed.

If you do decide to do something, nothing would be wrong with an "AV" instead

There is also the unenviable task of deciding what to do with Yaroslavl this year in terms of playing. Viktor Tikhonov suggests each team sends a player to them to compete.

First thing I'd be doing is getting those idiotic flying deathtraps out of service for athletes.

Saint John Sea Dogs announced that they'll be acknowledging the tragedy with a moment of silence next Thursday during their home opener. They didn't have a single player onboard, but I bet Galiev did have friends on it. Nice to see. I'm sure other teams will follow suit.

I don't think that would be fair for the players being sent over like that.

Have a team ready for next season.

AV patch for standard avys? Similar to USH`s Pat Burns patch?

From what I`ve heard it doesn`t look like a technical error. Just saying.

The Wings and Predators have been hit pretty hard with tragedy this summer too. McCrimmon just left his position with Detroit, and Salei is a former player. Skrastins played for Nashville and so did Belak.
