WOW WTF!!!

This summer has been a tragedy after another in the hockey world. Thoughts and prayers with the victims' families.

Josef Vacisek was one of my favorite players outside the NHL

As people have already stated this has been an a heart breaking summer for hockey. So many young guys lost...terrible. I am devasted about Salei, Vasicek and Demitra they were players I really enjoyed watching... Always had Demitra in my hockey pool.

My prayers and thoughts to the friends and families of all those gone this summer. I hope the city of Yaroslavl continues to have hockey.

Stanislav Galiev tweets that the mother of Sergei Ostapchuk (Lokomotiv player) has died of a heart attack upon hearing the news.

On a side note, can people stop going to russia for hockey? Between terrible medical staffs, bribery, mafia, bankrupt teams, you have to worry about getting on a plane?

Take a salary cut & come back to the NHL.
Yeah plane crashes don't happen here ever.

Hard to know what to say. This is tragic. A lot of really talented hockey players on that flight... I can remember nearly all of them that played in the NHL, too. Tragedy.

I'm gonna sound like an ass, but what does the team do? Do they hold an expansion draft to get Lokomotiv some players? Do they promote their farm system?

I know the NHL has an emergency clause if that were to happen. Not sure if the KHL has one.

It still hasn't sunk in. This is surreal.

I dont know anyone personally from this tragedy, but my stomach has been in a knot all day.

Words are useless at a time like this. I am in disbelief. R.I.P. Lokamotiv and condolences to all family members.

Like another poster said, life is precious. Live today like it is the last one because you do not know what will happen tomorrow. Words of wisdom I seldom take.

A pro sports organizations WORST nightmare! So much has to be done now. Not to mention the misery for all the players' friends and families...

Anyone know if their owner is still alive? Because he just lost A LOT of money.

Same here..

It's almost incredible this type of thing doesn't happen more often given how much travelling sports teams actually do, but I guess it's a testament to how safe air travel is for the most part. Hopefully more will be done in the future to ensure this type of thing can be avoided whenever possible...

I feel the same way. I've heard this story over and over today, yet it still doesn't seem real.

My condolences to the families.
