The number Max Domi wears on his hockey sweater bears a touch of personal symbolism.
On Tuesday, the London Knights' newest acquisition pulled the team's new third jersey -- commemorating the 2005 Memorial Cup-winning team's logo and fittingly made up in a hunter green hue -- over his head for the first time.
On the back, the sweater displayed the No. 16.
"I've worn it the past few years because of (former Philadelphia Flyers captain and executive) Bob Clarke," the 16-year-old Domi said. "I don't know him but a few years ago, I watched a show on TV about him and how he managed to play hockey despite having Type I diabetes."
Domi has diabetes too. He was diagnosed five years ago. "You have to live a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy and monitor it, but it's never been an issue for me," he said.
He views Clarke as a role model and that's why he wears No. 16, not 28, the digits his father Tie wore as a Toronto Maple Leafs enforcer. "I've never worn 28," said Max, who at 5-foot-8, 180-pounds, is built like his dad. "When I was younger, I wore No. 13 for Mats Sundin."
More Giroux, a quote from the NHL media presser. A great quote
Quote:
Giroux was asked by NHL.com's Adam Kimelman if he likes meeting other NHL stars at these types of events, and perhaps making a few new buddies.
The answer? Not really.
"It's kind of cool, but at the same time I play against them and don't really like all of them,” he said. “I guess it's part of the game, you have to go with it. I think when you're on the ice you're not there to make friends."
Just had an idea: let's play a different sort of draft game..here are some players picked before Giroux, and their best point production:
Derick Brassard (47)
Kyle Okposo (52)
Peter Mueller (54)
James Sheppard (24)
Michael Frolik (45)
Bryan Little (51)
Jiri Tlusty (16)
Trevor Lewis (13)
Chris Stewart (64)
Dennis Persson (no NHL games)
That's more fun than our usual "we picked Klotz!?" game.

Can someone explain to me how we can invite guys that are still draft eligible to training camp? Guys like Hyka(who was a high pick in the import draft this year and is 2012 draft eligible) can't make the team, can they? Is it just for them to get some experience against high quality competition?

I hate to come on here to brag, but I just did another draft:
R Pos Player
02 C Toews
04 C Thornton
03 L Zetterberg
10 L Tanguay
01 R Perry
06 R,C Briere
07 D Lidstrom
09 D Enstrom
11 D Edler
13 D Seabrook
15 C Crosby
12 L van Riemsdyk
16 R Selanne
05 G Ward
08 G Halak
14 G Varlamov
You could argue that my goalies are questionable. I am actually pretty okay with them as a trio. Cam Ward is money. Halak is risky, but I feel he will play much better behind a much improved Blues team. If he falters Varlamov should serve me well in spot duty (you can bet your ass I'll be playing him against minnesota and edmonton as many as 6 times a season.)
Crosby could not return. If he doesn't I'll pick up Derek Roy
Selanne could retire. If he does I'll pick up Nathan Horton
I'll take the bad with the good:
(7) Forwards with point per game potential: Crosby, Toews, Thornton, Zetterberg, Perry, Briere, Selanne.
(2) 60-70 point potential: Tanguay, van Riemsdyk
(1) Lidstrom is a consistent 60+ point defensemen
(3) other D-men with 50 point potential
This might be the second best team I've ever assembled.

Is there like...4 people in that league? No no, 4 may be too many. 2 may make more sense! That's ridiculous.
Lisa Hillary is the same person who last year said that the Lighting should have traded for Michael Leighton instead of Dwayne Roloson because of playoff experience. She is a true believer.
