The Habs will have a great season

I don't have anything to complain about or any particular opinion about a player. I think the Habs are going to have a good year and have a balanced roster. Gomez has hit rock bottom and can't be any worse than last year, and almost eliminated the cup champions anyways (and that's without our no.1 defenseman and one of our best wingers (MaxPac). We lost some players, but no one too critical. We add Erik Cole, who'll answer a need we had for many years. I'm very excited about the season to come. There's no reason to not be positive seeing how good our team looks on paper. I've never been this impressed by a Habs team on paper since, well, since when we won the Cup the last time basically. So how about we all stop complaining and just be happy we have an awesome team for once!

Amen to that!

Rumor has it the Habs may invite Cory Stillman and John Madden to camp..

If so,

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Pacioretty
Cole - Gomez - Gionta
Kostitsyn - Eller - Stillman
Desharnais - Madden - White/Moen/Darche

What I love about this team and something about the Gainey and Gauthier era is that we have guys with a lot of character, nobody is a cancer and they're like a family or at least so it seems. Not saying there aren't hiccups along the way but this team just seems to have a tremendous amount of character. We have guys with determination, grittyness, solid work ethic, size... yes size, a willingness to go into the dirty areas. We have guys who are good two-way players. We have a lot of balance and a fair bit of depth. If injuries are on our side we could very will win the cup and to anyone lifting their nose at these comments shame on you.

There's a lot going for this team. We lost guys like Koivu, Ribeiro, Latendresse, some of whom we got nothing for, some of whom we may even like to have back (Koivu) but we have a team with a lot of character and they seem really tight knit. They play as a team and they all buy into the system. With that and the stuff I listed above you can win a cup. Also Gauthier has something up his sleeve mark my words. Gainey wouldn't let him throw away a golden opportunity to win the cup like this, that's why we have cap space and at deadline are going to land a star player to put us over the top.

I have complete confidence in this squad and PG. Martin on the other hand makes questionable decisions but I have enough faith in the system and the players they've pieced together to play that system to say if all goes well we have a serious shot. We're the underdogs and don't forget 1993. We did it before and we'll do it again. I don't see it as "when will we get our next cup?" like a Leafs fan. I see it as "it's just a matter of time". Our team has been heading in the right direction for years and haters like it or not they're going to do well and they have done well in the past.

Gomez will bounce back, book it.

God help the league if we do what the Bruins did (they acquired several talented players via trade) and go for a serious run. I'd be thrilled if we got star player + Koivu or something ridiculous like that. Make it happen PG! Even if we don't we're still stacked but it would be a real shame if we didn't make a solid move by deadline latest.

Not to nitpick but it doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't invited.

Been searching for that rumor, came up with nothing. Maybe a suggestion?

Edit: Just found it. Post from Vestiaire.ca. Not quite reliable.

I could see the Habs winning the division but I still have some concerns about our D.

Coaching- No problems here, think the Randy's will fill in fine and like that they have already coached a number of our younger guys (Pac, Desharnais, White, Weber, Engqvist)

Goaltending- This is easy, if Price struggles we are in big trouble, if he plays anything close to the way he did this past season, we will win our fare share of games for sure. Don't really know what to make of Budaj at this point, if he does better then Auld great.

Defense- If Markov stays healthy then I fully expect him to have a huge year and once again be among the top D's in the league. I can not wait for the puck to drop just to see him on the ice again as he is a real treat to watch night in and night out.

That said while I love our top 2 (Markov/Subban) and I think we have some really solid bottom pairing guys in Gorges/Gill/Spacek (I actually like Spacek as bottom pairing D more then most around here, I know he's hated on but I think he's still decent if he's at LD) I don't like the idea of Gorges on the top pairing as I prefer him with Gill but we'll see how they opt to go with the D pairings.

I don't care for Woywitka but as a 7th D he should be fine. I prefer Weber as the 7th D and Woywitka in Hamilton but that will depend on how Emelin does, I hope Emelin comes in and steals a full time roster spot in the top 6 but we'll see. Very interested to see how he does as he's my wild card for the season as a good year from him would be outstanding as our D could be one of the softest in the league if it's got Spacek/Gill/Weber as 3 of our top 6 and you don't want Gorges/Subban to be the only physical D's on the team so having someone like Emelin would be great if his game translates.

At least we have some decent depth, if Emelin makes it and they go with 7 D, with Woywitka to the AHL, then Hamilton would be loaded as well with Woywitka, Nash, Diaz, St-Denis, Mitera and Henry.

Forwards- I think Gomer will bounce back, going into last season he averaged 48 assists a year over 10 years, and since the lockout has posted (84, 60, 70, 58 and 59 pts) but then last season happened and now we have to wonder if it was just a fluke or has his game gone from being a regular 60+ on average the last 5 years to not even getting 40 pts or can he get back on track to anything close to 60 pts which he did in his first year. I could see him getting over 50 pts perhaps it's wishful thinking though, we'll see.

With Cole, Pac, Cammy, Gio, Pleks, Gomer, DD, Eller and Kosty you have to like our chances of putting up better offensive numbers, but then again we have to. I know JM is a defensive minded coach, but what the hell, one freaking player had over 47 pts last year. Just brutal and can't happen again this year. With Markov back that should help the O since no one has his vision on our blueline.

My question marks are will Cammy finally hit the 30 goal mark with us? Will Gomer break 50 pts ever again? Does Kostitsyn break his career high of 53 pts? What kind of season will Pleks have? He's gone from 47 pts to 69 to 39 to 70 to 57. I hope we get the 70 pt Pleks back. And finally how good can the young guns be? Between Pacioretty, Desharnais and Eller, these guys will have to be able to put points on the board and I suspect they will. I know many are picking Eller to have a breakout year, I think he will improve on his production for sure but I don't think he'll put up big numbers just yet. I do think Pac and DD will have big years though, can't wait to see what they can do.

I'm optimistic this year more than any other year as well. Not that I think we'll win it all, although it's certainly possible, but because of the youth and can't wait to see more of Subban, Eller, Desharnais, Weber and Yemelin. The success of the Habs will depend largely on these guys continued development and I expect continued progress from each and everyone of them. Then there is Carey Price, who I think is the least questionable of the bunch, well maybe besides Subban. I think Subban will be in the running for the Norris trophy sometime down the line, that could be as soon as this year. He has the ability, no question in my mind.

I wonder if Carey will establish himself as one of the best goaltenders in the league and remove any doubt, which I think he has done already, but solidify it. The vets, like cammy, ak, cole and markov have me more excited now than I've been in years.

We also have the flexibility cap wise to do pretty well whatever we want somewhere down the road if PG feels we need to add pieces to the puzzle. Damn, I can't wait.

I say it every year, but I think this is AK's breakout year, lol.

Drop the puck already.

both stillman and Madden seems like players that PG/Martin would like so idk

cup winners and Madden is a PK specialist wich can help Pleks and we do need a 4th line center so woudlnt mind him on a 1 year contract

First time since 08 I have been this excited. In 09, we had a new crew and coach, everybody was touting us as "Smurf Team".

In 10, we just traded away Halak, so any confidence gained during the playoffs were kinda put on hold. Still had huge hope for Subban.

And now? Rock'em babe!! Our team is on the upswing, constant improvement. Lets keep it on!!

It's all about injuries. Will Markov/Gorges/MaxPac/Cole/Cammy and Price/Subban/Pleks all be dressed up for the game 1 of playoffs ? If so, we can beat anybody.

Imagine at the deadline Anaheim looks dead in the water and we trade them a 1st and a prospect for Saku and Teemu (both as rental UFAs, provided Teemu signs another 1 year deal).

Then we end up with

Cammy-Plecks-Selanne
Cole-Gomez-Gionta
Patches-Koivu-A Kost
DD - Eller - White/Moen/Darche

What prospect?

I mean, you still expect to have a filled lineup after such ubertrader? Come on... We'll be losing Eller and Weber over such trade..

Adding them would be a nice final touch, if they don't cost more than 1 mil each. Just to keep us some leeway for the season.

Habs would definetly have the deepest forward group in the east if we add them both. Added to one of the best top pairings in the east, and one of the best goalies in the east.

We could probably trade a Kristo or Tinordi and a 1st for two impending UFAs to a non playoff team. I'm thinkin in the event that Getzlaf and Perry are out or some other huge injury problem.

Correct, staying healthy is the key for the Habs...it's the difference between being in the playoffs picture,in the 3-6th spots, or being in the playoff hunt for 6-8th spot....or heaven forbid, lower fighting to get in...

This could be a terrific year, if we could just get a little luck on the injury front...

If the team stays healthy, Price is stellar again, Pacioretty, Subban and Eller have great seasons and Gomez get's at least 70 points, Montreal is the best bet to come out of the east this season.

Bottom line is, we are closer now than ever in the past 15 years to winning the cup!

Although I really appreciate the positive outlook and that I believe there are a lot of reasons to feel that way I just can't share the sentiment unfortunately. Too many IFs this year for me.

First off, they tried to sign Hamrlik and it failed and they haven't replaced him. He has literally saved our seasons the last two years when Markov went down to injury. Sure we didn't have PK ready to step up as a top pairing D-man at the time but I am concerned about sophomore blues in his case. I would like to see another veteran D-man on the team that can log those big minutes and provide some offense and stability. Something Gorges can't do. (he can play big minutes and is great defensively but is not exactly Bobby Orr on the offensive side).

Then there's the other question marks for me. Everyone seems to already have Yemelin making the team and being a strong contributor. Now, I have no idea whether this will happen and I really hope it does, but I don't remember a guy coming in from the KHL and step up in a leading role without having ever played a single game in the NHL. If he does make the team, and if he does become a strong defenseman for us I still think it'll take a while for him to adjust.

Then there's Cole and Patches and the concussion issues. I really like Pacioretty's response to the injury, training hard etc, but there is that doubt for me that he may never quite be the same. One fraction of hesitation in the NHL and you're not the same player. Again, this may not even be a factor, but I can't help but be concerned.

Then there's Gomez. We need him to bounce back and bounce back in a huge way. I do believe he has it in him.

Where I think we're looking real good is in nets. A Price (providing he plays like last year and not the year before) and Bujaj tandem is better than Price/Auld imo.

Anyway, I can't wait to see how it all unfolds, but I don't have the best feeling leading into this year. Too many important things rely on ifs and maybes and let's hopes.

Just my two cents.

OK lets pretend for a second that we get a couple vets inserted in the lineup.... what happens to DD, White
These are players that need a roster spot or we'll lose them. We're always whining about losing our young players but everytime we have a couple ready to come in we try and fill their spot with journeymen or aging vets.
