Jarkko Ruutu signs 3 year deal with Jokerit Helsinki (SM-Liiga)... and will face his last year team mates in exhibition game next month.
Well finally. This has been rumored for what, few months already? Jokerit looks great and might actually be a good match against the Ducks. I'm betting that either Helsinkian team will be the champions of FEL.
Must Read Article About Todd Fedoruk's Battle with Drug Addiction
Quote:
His best years, personally and professionally, were sober. Fedoruk met his wife—they wed after a Flyers practice—and had their first had child when he was clean.
He was traded to Anaheim and had the gritty forward career year in 2005-06 with 23 points in 76 games.
And he never refused a fight.
Fedoruk underwent surgery in November 2003 after a fight with Eric Cairns of the New York Islanders left him with a broken face. He was clobbered by New York Rangers enforcer Colton Orr(notes) in 2007, caught with a hard right against his reconstructed left cheek that sent him down and out on his back. Surgeons implanted a small, permanent titanium plate in Fedoruk’s upper cheekbone to stabilize the orbital structure.
Fedoruk couldn’t maintain his straight-and-sober lifestyle for much longer.
He was just a young, rich athlete having a good time in a sport where alcohol is about as ingrained as nets and pads. That’s not milk champions swig out of the Stanley Cup.
Eventually, his run of good fortunate collapsed again.
Some interesting insight into a player's life.
Props to Todd for sharing this personal information and hope he can find a healthy solution.
Best of luck Fridge.
Ontopic: Interesting article about Fedoruk. It's so sad how many hockey players have drug related problems.
Yeah and NHL should change their ways a little bit in the rehab department if they already haven't. NHL is a league with many nationalities and believes/religion etc. I always remember Jere Karalahti couldn't handle it because the rehab program was too much religion focused. That's just one thing but there is way much improvement to do especially after this summer.
Does anyone know what happened to Mike Crowley? I remember he was a monster in college but didnt make it to the NHL. I think his defensive partner in Minnessota was Dan Trebil.

Mike Crowley (#38) played with the Cinci Ducks and with Anaheim about half a season (67 games over three seasons).
Locals also remember him playing with the Long Beach Ice Dogs.
After his contract expired, he signed with Minnesota and suffered an injury. Played a bit more in the minors, then retired.
Will be inducted into University of Minnesota Hall of Fame 2011 class: - here- .
One part I found amusing was how he needed a friend to keep tape of other fighters to get the "book" on possible future opponents. But that now they just use hockeyfights.com
Cool piece that helps you understand why enforcers sometimes have substance abuse problems/depression.
edit: also interesting was how Severyn tried to flag the Dallas coach during the huge brawl game when he sent the wrong lineup out, but the Ducks heavies had to send a message.

The thing that pissed me off the most about that trade was that we traded a former first round pick for a guy we should have re-signed in the first place. It was terrible asset management although adding Beauchemin does make our D respectable.
It could have been worse, at least we didn't trade them Schultz who IMO is a much better prospect than Gardiner.

Agreed, I don't think Gardiner had a chance to make the big club anyway with the type of players we have in the system. I think Schultz does become a much better player.
