man among boys out there. Can't wait to see him in the full camp, he seems far better than any Leaf defenseman. I don't recall any Leaf dman who looked this good, this young. Maybe Kenny Jonsson? Kaberle looked good early as well.
Impressive.

(yes, I realize it's just a rookie camp)

Gardiner didnt have a standout preformance until the third. Played well though

Olden really impressed me. Looks to have gained some weight, has great speed and is always lurking. Its quite clear hes not used to NA ice becuase he kept cutting VERY wide around defenders thinking he had alot more space, only to find himself in the corner. He'll adjust Im sure, but played a great game none the less.

Frattin was pretty good. Was playing with some pretty weak players in Broll and Heard, both were not very good.

Percy was terribad. I mean, he was just awful.

All our tryout players were awful. All making stupid plays.

However, its just the first game. Im sure alot of these players had nerves and they got the better of them.

Gardiner and Blacker were the most impressive Leafs. No one on forward stood out. And some of the invited Leaf defensemen (Stanitz, Schwindt) were brutal.

Good game overall. Glad to get a win.

I thought Olden and Blacker were the real standouts.

Gardiner is obviously really good, but he was fighting the puck for much of the game.

McKegg was completely invisible, and Percy struggled a bit.

Kenny Ryan, you know it baby.

And yeah that's what you get for taking out Owuya.

It seems as though that in every game McKegg plays that is somewhat high profile he struggles or doesn't do anything great. Maybe he just needs time to adapt to it?

Will the Leafs ice the same line up tomorrow vs Pens? I want to see Gardiner, Blacker, Ryan.

There should be some scratches, but Gardiner, and Blacker should be in the lineup.

I though Brad Ross looked pretty good out there. Good hands and was in every scrum. Frattin has good speed and is a good skater. For the love of all that is holy please don't judge players based on a game in a meaningless rookie tourney.

did u watch the game?????? ROSS was not good tonight. being in a scrum is not playing hockey. I expect a lot from a first or second round pick. And i did not see anything.

****ing Blacker. Sounds like he had a good game. He's going to be a stud.

Anyways, I couldn't catch the game. Where Blacker and Gardiner a pairing? I think they could be a very good pairing in the future with their speed. Or is it impossible because the play the same side?

For 5 on 5, they separated Blacker, Gardiner and Percy and played them with 3 invited guys who were brutal.

I didn't think Percy was that bad. I mean, I never really noticed him, but that's his game. Solid, but not flashy.

McKegg did look pretty lost at times though, similar to D'Amigo when I've seen him play.

tbh I tuned out in the 2nd because it got boring but I thought Ross was the best player on the ice in the first. He set up the first goal and threw his body around a lot. He needs to beef up though in order to play like that all game.

I agree, Percy seemed fine to me and made some nice plays on the offensive zone, it's just he was paired with a tryout who played brutal

Percy wasn't a train-wreck like some people are making him out to be. However he did have a couple terrible pinches, and he bobbled the puck a few times but the ice was pretty bad in that arena . He was less than impressive for sure, but not terrible.

For those of you who couldn't catch the game, the "game in six minutes" recap is now on the leafs website.

Just got back from the game.

Gardiner and Blacker both played great.

Up front, Ryan had a solid game, as did Devane.

And Ross... I watched him away from the puck every time he was on. Man, what a pest! He was constantly yapping at Hawk players, giving little shots as he skated by on line changes. He's one of those guys you just hate playing against.

He's going to be a great pest to have in our bottom six going forward. Army, Ross, and Biggs at some point in the future in our bottom six...

Though, do you want to have a second rounder whose biggest contribution is yapping? I only saw the third period but was definitely not impressed by Ross
