Traverse City 2007 Revisited

I went back to the 2007 tournament stats - the last time the Rangers won this competition. You can find them here:

http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/...&seasonid=2222

What happened to these kids and how successful did they become over the next four years?

Does this tell us anything about the current crop? Perhaps most interesting is that the two top scorers were Brandon Dubinksy and Alex Bourret. Their careers have gone in opposite directions.

I used hockeydb to try and gain info on all the players.

At the big club:
Dubinsky, Anisimov, Sauer, Staal,

NHLers:
Korpikoski (Phoenix)
Tommy Pyatt (Montreal)

AHL:
Brodie Dupont - (NYR)
Jordan Owens - (Detroit)
Bobby Sanguinetti (Carolina)
Corey Potter (Pitt)

ECHL:
Alex Bourret (Ontario Reign / LAK)
Ryan Hillier (Elmira / Anaheim)

sub ECHL:
Clayton Barthel (Arizona-CHL)

Europe:
David Kveton (Czech)
Tomas Zaborsky (Finland)
Mark Lee (Finland)
Mike Busto (Italy)

Not playing / can't find info:
Both Goalies - Antoine Lafleur & Miika Wiikman
David Skokan
Joe Barnes
Lukas Bohunicky

it should be pointed out also that Sanguinetti, Dupont and Potter have all played in at least 1 NHL game.

Skokan plays for HC Bratislava, as does Bohunicky. Wiikman is back in Finland, and both Lafleur and Barnes are out of professional hockey.

Why did Lafleur leave? I thought he was good before he dropped off the face of the earth.

He just wasn't good. He could have toiled in the ECHL for a few years, but appears to have elected to go for a standard 9 to 5.

Bourret is a strange case. 1st rounder who had a good 1st year in the AHL 2006-7 (50pts in 68 games). he had 7pts in 4games at Traverse city in sept 2007.

from there he just regressed and regressed. he even played in Asia last year.

he was even traded for Pascal Dupuis who became a regular NHLer. just an example of a guy who looks good but just fails to make it.

6 player from the 2007 tournament made it to the NHL.

Who, from this 2011 tournament, will make it to the NHL?

I say Thomas, McIlrath, Erixon, Miller, Hagelin as definite NHLers.

Bourque and Parlett with outside chances to make the Rangers, but will probably find a spot on another team.

Thoughts?

hagelin appears to be great, but he is 3-4 years older than the rest of players, so it is not really comparable.

Many seem to be low on the younger kids while high on the younger players (especially Hagelin and Parlett deserves to be mentioned).

My point is just that a 18 y/o Dubinsky/18 y/o Hagelin/18 y/o Sauer and the likes, definitely developed alot after getting drafted. Was Thomas in Traverse last season? I don't remember hearing much about him.

Odds are probably that at least a couple of guys like St. Croix, McCoulgan and co will be just as good, if not better, than someone like Hagelin as of now.
