Not a surprise. Too bad. He could have been really good if he wasn't a drama queen. On the upside this means if someone impresses in camp they can be signed.

Figured someone would have to go with Nylander, Couturier, and that other guy they invited to camp. I doubt all three make it, but I'm thinking this means they at least have an eye for one of them making it.

I'll be shocked if they sign Couturier to an ELC with the open roster spot. He'd have to really impress along with a combination of Nylander and Mair really sucking.

Yes I agree with you here. By the way who set up our prospects billboard?

Nylander would have to play at an NHL level to earn a contract.

The Flyers were not afraid to turn away others due to poor performance.

If he can't beat either of them out then it's a scary sign. Nylander wasn't any good when he last played in the NHL 3 years ago. Mair is fairly useless.

Yeah but we don't need to sign Couturier. If anyone (not just Mair or Nylander) deserve a spot over Couturier, we can just hold off on signing him and/or sign a different player even if it is just for a call-up later in the season. If Couturier earns a spot, then by all means sign him. But there is no need to unless he does.

Assuming...

vanRiemsdyk - Giroux - Jagr
Hartnell - Briere - Voracek
xxxxxxxx - Schenn - Simmonds

xxxxxxxx = Couturier vs. Nodl vs. Read vs. Wellwood vs. Testwuide vs. Sestito vs. Talbot vs. Nylander
