Being in shape is great but his competitiveness is been Penner's problem in the past. I just don't think he lives and dies playing Hockey(Insert Frolov here too). So he is the perfect candidate to blame every Kings loss on him. D. Brown and Stoll going to love having him here all year.
Nothing personal against Gann, but I (and I'm sure Penner himself) am getting sick of these type of reports. Same goes for the ones about Mike Richards and why the Flyers traded him. I can't wait for the season to start so we could stop talking about these tiresome topics.

I too am sure he's sick of them. Then again, I'm also sure he appreciates having someone getting the story right. Also, it's a legit story, under the circumstances. Hopefully, I won't have to write another one about his conditioning.
The focus should shift onto Dustin Byfuglien and his weight. That man actually put on some weight during the season. Normally, players tend to shed a few pounds as the season progresses.

Well said.
When Puck Daddy and the Edmonton Journal make a Twitter photo a story, it deserves a response.

Don't lump Puck Daddy in there. PD aggregates and posts stories from other places, usually in mockery of the original story. The Edmonton Journal is the one who made it a story, then Puck Daddy said "lol, hey look at the idiots at the edmonton journal"

There's also that.... and the fact that Penner WAS out of shape when he got here last season. His being in shape now doesn't change what he was last season, but it is sad that because of what he was, some people won't believe that he has changed.
I don't think the fact that it's a contract year has much if anything to do with it.
It's more about proving he's a much better player than he showed last year.
If he was still an Oiler and under contract, then I'm sure he couldn't care less. But, since he will be a UFA and is with a team that is competing, it plays a part.

Thing with Penner is he already got his big money contract when he went to Edmonton. Right now he is playing no not only prove he is worth that money that his is getting but also that he deserves the same if not more in the future... So yeah the fact that it's a contract year is part of it one would think.
I'm not impressed with 3 days a week, that's what my mom does. I work in an OFFICE and work out 6 days a week. Hockey players should have an every day committment in the off season. Maybe take a week or two off at the beginning of summer but that's it. Additionally, it doesn't really matter how much you work out if you neglect your diet and nutrition.
I want to believe that Penner is going to knock everyones **** in but I have to see it first.

He was working out 3 days a week AT El Segundo. That doesn't mean he wasn't working out the other 4 days of the week closer to his home in Orange County.

This is true.
Forgive my bitterness. I just know how hard I work to stay in shape and it frustrates me to no end when professional athletes dont have a stronger commitment to nutrition and fitness.

I think it might have been the other way around. Just because the Journal blog said that the picture was posted on Puck Daddy...so just logically it sounds like the Journal blog story was written after Puck daddy's blog entry. And I guess it would also be important to note it was on the Journal Blog site...the Journal is the more respected newspaper in Edmonton and they would probably never publish something like that in the actual newspaper...in this case it was just on their blog portion of their website.
Dean and Murray made this an issue right after the season ended. Blame them.
NO.
Penner made it an issue when he didn't take his game seriously in Edmonton. Thus showing up after the trade out of shape and UN-motivated. Causing poor play and very short half hearted shifts.
They just pointed out the truth. It's like getting mad at me just because I said it's hot outside.
