Definitely something to consider.

You are underestimating Rinaldo's skillset. He has decent hands and can pass the puck. I don't think he's going to make the team yet, let alone on the 3rd line, but he can play with skilled players and he was a pretty good PKer in Jr. too.

I think he'll need most of a year in the A again, to learn discipline and get some PK time. He can be very effective at totally disrupting the other team in their zone, esp. if they have d-men who don't like getting knocked on their butts.

Better than Shelley or Cote. That doesn't make him a 3rd liner.

He didnt sniff the pk in the AHL, and he played on the 3rd line the whole season....and only got 3 goals.

Just cause he could score in juniors doesnt mean he can in the pros. Putting a disruptive player on a scoring line never, ever works.

Tyler Brown is someone to watch tomorrow:

http://phillysportsdaily.com/flyers/...rprise-splash/

Quote:
VOORHEES, N.J. — There were a few names from the Flyers’ rookie camp that were expected to make a push for a spot on the big-league roster, but Tyler Brown’s name wasn’t really included with Brayden Schenn, Sean Couturier, Eric Wellwood and the like. Yet he’s still being noticed by the front office.

“Tyler Brown is a kid I didn’t know a lot about; we signed him as a free agent last spring, Paul Holmgren said on Tuesday. “His speed has caught my eye.”

That’s one of the things the speedy winger was hoping would set him apart. He has played the last four seasons with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League and had a career high 25 goals and 34 assists in 67 games last season. Now he’s ready to take the next step after signing an entry-level contract with the Flyers in March.

“I know a lot of guys, a lot of friends in other camps, that are saying it’s really hard, tough, but this is good,” Brown said. “You get your feet moving. You get your legs moving.
Quote:
“Good size, goes to the net very well and just has very good hands too,” noted Adirondack Phantoms coach Joe Paterson who has been working out with all the rookies. “In the last three days he’s looked good in practice and now we have the opportunity to see him in a game which is going to be even more exciting.”

Quote:
When asked if any prospects had caught his eye at camp this week, general manager Paul Holmgren didn’t hesitate before naming left wing Tyler Brown.

Brown, 21, has flown under the radar a bit this rookie camp because of all the attention paid to Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier, but his performance on the ice has spoken for itself so far.

He’s played for the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL since 2007-08, but had a particularly impressive showing last season, when he scored 25 goals and added 34 assists in 67 games.

“I’m a good penalty killer,” Brown said Wednesday. “Last year I think I had eight or nine shorthanded goals in the OHL. I’ve got a lot of speed, too. I think that’s probably my biggest asset, using my speed. But I also like to throw my body around and chip in on the offense.”

Nice read. It would be cool to see a guy come completely out of left field and make the team. I of course doubt it, but it would still be cool to see him leap frog a half a dozen other guys.

Psyched!!!!

Gates open at 3:30. I'm getting there early so I can stake my claim to an ice row seat right behind the Cap's goal. I have made a few signs that I am going to hoist at the appropriate time. Just call me "SignBoy" from now on.

The signs will read:

"NEXT GOALIE"

"IF YOU CAN READ THIS YOUR VISION IS BETTER THAN THE REF's"

"THE FIRST STEP TO THE CUP: THE JOURNEY BEGINS"

I will be hanging out in the lot by the FanStore from around 1:30 until 3:00. I have the black 4Runner --will be wearing the MG Pronger jersey.

Guys like Downie can be useful because they have skills - but guys like Rinaldo? I don't get it.

Rinaldo is just a younger Carcillo that fights a bit better. He's going to take bad penalties and cost the team goals and maybe games. I just hope when he does get suspended that he doesn't seriously injure somebody.

And he took a huge run at Couturier this summer - afterwards Homer is saying how well he's doing. It's retarded. I would have LOVED to see somebody at least try and cave in his head.
Well gertie it looks like you and gfh did not get have any love in your homes growing up. It is one thing to dislike a player. But to say they are retarded and that you would LOVE to see his head caved in. Don't you think you and your pal are going a little overboard? I mean lets give the kid a chance before we condemn him. Do not be so quick to pass judgment on someone. At least lets see how the preseason plays out before we burn him at the stake.

I actually think Rinaldo goes to a psychiatrist due to his anger issues (there was an article out there with direct quotes from him about it). Maybe he isnt retarded, but there is something wrong up there. I think I would like him as a player if he wasnt such a screw loose. I dont mind tough players. I dont like players that hurt their own team in the process.

I actually watched him play a few games in the OHl/prospect camp. Honestly I wasnt too impressed by him. He looked like another 4th line player, MAYBE 3rd line fillin at best. Otherwise he seems like AHL fodder.

Me as well. Im excited to see Scheen and Couts hopefully tear it up, but i want to know how the Great Dane does out there. I would be nice if he can try to be a late season call-up this year.
