I've always been curious about this since I see so many rec league teams that basically rip off logos as well and just change a word or something.
yea the thing with rec teams is that most of them dont have money so whats the point of suing them? even getting lawyers involved to order cease and desist are not worth it because it doesn't really damage the brand. (though i am sure wetcoaster will have something to say)
This though if they don't have permission could lead to a lawsuit again depending on how big this team is and if they have money to go after
I often wonder about copyright. Here in the Calgary area I've seen a coring company with a black silhouette of 'Ash' from Army of Darkness except instead of a shotgun he has a coring hole saw for an arm;
a delivery company with the Wile E. Coyote for a logo;
and a plumbing company with the incredible Hulk but blue instead of green plastered all over their vans.
I dont know why people are too concerned about this. Its not like these teams sell merchandise and they have maybe a hundred fans at their games. If it weren't for the internet no one would know they even existed.
Ganja...ask the guy who owns Olympic Pizza (a one restaurant operation in Vancouver) what VANOC did to him? They basically forced him to change the name of his restaurant as their name was an infringment on the IOC.
Whoever owns the Moose logo can shut this down if they wish
