Josh Bailey Deadline

Hockey Break in a series of tweets (3) just mentioned this.

Garth Snow has set a deadline for RFA Josh Bailey to sign. If he does not, he will sit out the season while the NYI hold his rights.
(1/3)

A similar situation happened to Sean Bergenheim, during the 06-07 season could not reach a deal, he forfeited the season with the NYI
(2/3)

Bergenheim played overseas that year in the SEL for Vastra Frolunda HC and for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv.
(3/3)

Hrmmm... would Bailey hold out? It will really hurt his development. He should just sign IMO

It's actually not Garth Snow setting a deadline. This has been Islanders policy since Charles Wang bought the team -- if you're not signed by the start of training camp (tomorrow players report for physicals and photos), you will sit out the season.

Bailey is apparently still confident something will get done.

Just give him an option of 1 year 1.2M or 2 years at 3M and call it a day.

I wonder where he would play, if at all, if he doesn't have a contract.

Hopefully. I'd like to see him traded for a young defenseman.

I don't see Bailey being in a position of strength here. He has shown that he has some promise but not much more. I would think he would be grateful to get the chance to be in the NHL.

If nothing else he should be greatful that most players from his draft class spent 2 years in junior and 1 year in the AHL while he was making a nice paycheck.

What's funny is that the Rangers and Islanders would make ideal trading partners with the Rangers glut of young defensemen, but that won't happen. Bailey would look great as a 3rd line C/LW playing with Stepan and Fedotenko.

If for some reason the Islanders and Rangers do make trades, would you do a Bailey for Sauer deal?

Gunnarsson is probably the most i would want the Leafs to offer, even then it might be a bit of an overpayment. How about Komi or Lashoff?

Ah, I shouldn't have said young defenseman. At this point, I would want a vet. No, not Spacek.

I wouldn't mind Weber or Nash but Nashville or Columbus would want us to gut the farm for them

I think that if you would get Weber it would be beneficial for the Isles because he could play with Streit.

I think something around Brian Lee would make tons of sense. Lee is a better player now imo and might continue to be but the Sens could use a center and could definitely deal with getting rid of a DMan.

The Rangers have too many LD's. How about MDZ? Girardi and Sauer are the only RD's at the moment so I don't think either would be moved.

Both struggled last season but have skills to be good players. The Rangers have too many good defensive prospects....

MDZ
Erixon
McIlrath
Kundratek
Velentenko
Parlett

and with Staal, Girardi, McDonagh and Sauer all young already, they can't all play....

He's holding out? After a season where he was sent down to the AHL abruptly? That doesn't sound like a good strategy.
