Surprised this kid didn't return home to Sweden to play, actually ....

Hope he surprises ... He's going to have a lot of competition.

Just out of curiosity, could someone here fill me in on the atmosphere at the Dunk? I understand that obviously the better the team is, the noise factor goes up. Just wondering about what it`s like to watch a game there, good sight lines etc..how many seats

Mrs. Odaat and I have a Mass road trip in the works for the new year, thought we`d add a PB`s game to the list of things to do along with a Bruin game.

Thx

Here is information about the arena: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunkin'_Donuts_Center

Providence is a nice city to visit. And Newport and the RI shore are great.

Thx Alan, I didn`t realize it`s capacity was that much, thought it was somewhere between the 6-8,000 range for some reason.

If you've been to other AHL games, it's a pretty typical experience, IMHO. I'd order tickets in advance, just to be sure. Usually if I do that for a strange stadium, I'll ask the ticket person where he or she would sit.

As Alan said, Providence is a very nice city to visit. Worth some time to explore if you have it.

Atmosphere is like most minor league rinks, lots of families.

The rink it self is very clean, not a bad seat in the house with some excellent restaurants near by, crowds this past year were up despite having a poor team, as a rule of thumb they draw better on Friday night than Sunday afternoon and the hockey is usually better as well(they play Fri,Sat, and Sunday)

I would get my tickets early, I think the B's winning the cup will help draw more people in and I was told the upcoming Black/White game is close to selling out

The Providence/Pawtucket RI area was just ranked #3 minor league market out of 241 markets nationwide. They love their Providence Bruins and Pawtucket Red Sox.

From the Providence Journal:

Yet confronted with nearly three years of double-digit unemployment (10.4 percent as of June) and a stagnant population, the market’s two minor-league clubs have combined to consistently draw roughly 900,000 fans annually to their games. That’s about 8,000 fans per game on average. It’s that strength at the gate despite the economic challenges that sprung the market from No. 37 in the rankings in 2009 to No. 3 this year.

Come on P-Bruins. Go get a Calder Cup this year and make those fans happy.

This is why it is so critical that they went out and got a player like Josh Hennessy. It's like the equivalent of picking up Brad Richards in the NHL. Getting the P-Bruins to the playoffs is critical, where they will likely be able to add Spooner and/or Knight.

If Providence keeps Caron and Sauve all year, the team should be very good. The only question mark is goaltending.

I agree with you about adding Hennnessy. Barbara Matson wrote a piece about him recently in the Globe. Hennessy is really excited to be in the B's organization. Read it here: http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/...e_with_bruins/

Jamie Tardif is a similar acquisition with solid experience to help in Providence.

I think Khudobin will be very good in goal and the team will be much better and make the playoffs this season.

Figured I'd grab this from page 3, given his performance in the Black & Gold game. Full disclosure - I wasn't at the game, but saw he had two assists and got props from Koko.

Hadn't heard any updates in a while on contract status, but saw he was invited to Captain's practices and saw that he was at camp (and hasn't been cut... yet) - so here's to hoping he can earn another year in Prov.

I didn't know what his status was either and still really don't beyond that he signed an NHL contract at the end of last year for the remainder of the season. Had no idea he'd be there last night until I saw the rosters yesterday morning. Love the fact that even against NHL talent, he still played the same hard nosed forechecking game he plays in the A.

P-Bruins training camp opens Sunday.

From the Providence Journal: http://bruinsblog.projo.com/2011/09/...-to-ope-1.html

On Thursday morning, the five players who were assigned by Boston on Wednesday -- Kyle MacKinnon, Stefan Chaput, Tyler Randell, Yannick Riendeau and Calle Ridderwall -- had an informal skate.

Also on the ice at the Dunkin Donuts Center was free-agent goalie Jared DeMichiel, who was in Boston's rookie camp early this month and will be in Providence's camp.

Boston is expected to send more players to Providence after Friday night's preseason game against the New York Islanders at the TD Garden or on Saturday.

Kevan Miller signs an AHL contract in Providence

Again from the Journal:

Free-agent defenseman Kevan Miller has signed an AHL contract with the Providence Bruins.

Miller, 23, is six-foot-two and 200 pounds and played four seasons at the University of Vermont. He joined the P-Bruins at the end of last season and was scoreless in six games with 9 PIMs.

A physical defender, Miller is still in Boston's camp. He sent Milan Lucic sprawling on Monday morning when Lucic tried to cut to the net during a practice drill at the TD Garden.

Real good Signing. Watched him throughout the camps this year. Very strong and tough stay at home type D-Man that will stand up for his team mates. I project a year in the AHL will show a different player in the camps next year.

Pre-season schedule for Week 1

From the Providence Journal:

The P-Bruins will skate at the Dunkin Donuts Center from Sunday through Wednesday, then move to the Rhode Island Sports Center in North Smithfield on Thursday and Friday. Practices at The Dunk are closed to the public, but the 10 a.m. sessions in North Smithfield are open. The first of Providenceís two preseason games is Friday against Springfield at 7 p.m. in Marlboro, Mass.

Yeah... As long as if you leave downtown you're headed east. Go any other direction and you'd better have automatic weapons.

Hey ... Anyone else notice Colborne being cut early on from Toronto's camp??

Can't say I'm at all surprised, but I figured him to be around at least a little longer considering the overall weakness of the Toronto roster ....

Wonder if he pouts it up like he did in Providence last season?
