Can you imagine Schenn getting 6.25 a yr. That would be a joke.
It would be a joke. A defenseman with a career high of 22 points, with little indication of being able to produce much more than that should make no where near $6M.

No?

Players are overpaid, often.

So by your theory, Scott Gomez is best player on the Habs?

Come on buddy, wake up

to your overpaid remark, really, i haven't noticed? (sarcasm)

as for gomez, they thought he'd be, or they wouldn't have paid him 7,357,143/season AVG. for 7 years

come on buddy, why else would you pay someone that amount?

The thread title should be switched, at least until he signs... I keep coming here thinking he has signed. Good job ***************

So would Gomez @ 7.35.... Oh wait.

My guess:
2-3 yrs @ 3m/per
5-6 yrs @ 4m/per

Frankly, at this point Aulie is better defensively than Schenn, as he is more polished. I don't know what the final product of Schenn will be, but he needs to realize that going for the big hit isn't always a good idea. It's why his giveaway v. takeaway stats are so atrocious.

Edit: Not that Aulie's stats are much better, but he's only had half a season so far. Schenn's had 3.
Damn shame. Posted without watching.

Exactly! Flames management thought Phaneuf would be worth 6.5M a year. He isn't, that much is obvious now. Just because he is getting paid 6.5M doesn't mean that he is better than anybody who is making under 6.5.

Schenn >> Phaneuf

so who signed komisarek at 4.5, and wouldn't you (if you were luke schenn) be offended at a deal cheaper than what he's making. if you think you're better than they are?

I'd be happy with a 6 year term around 22-24 million.

Not really, I am sure Schenn has no issue with Komi making what he makes. This is why in the business world employees are not aloud to talk about the salary they make lol.

Schenn is 21, I am sure he understands why he won't make that kind of money yet. He is not a ego headcase that wants to hold the team to the fire. The deal will get done and if it doesn't we will get a good return for him, really it is win/win for us. We sign him we get back a fan favourite and a kid with the potential to be one of the best shut D in the league. Flip side to that coin is we are deep enough at the D position to lose someone like Schenn if it comes to that and in turn fill another position of need.

Ask Logan Couture, or John Tavares, or Brad Marchand... 3 guys who recently signed for less then what they could have.

Not all players are looking for maximum dollars... When dealing in seven figures, sometimes guys will take a little less to play for a team they wanna be on... Or in a city they wanna live in..

It's not unheard of, although players like those are definitely the minority lately.

i agree, if it is a short term contract, but the longer the years, the more he'll want (that's my opinion anyway)

That would be fine, no reason to take up UFA years without paying him properly for them. Right now I can see a short term deal at roughly 3M, down the road he will be worth 5 or so. Just my thoughts on it.

Quickly on Komi though, that offseason NO ONE could have guessed what has happened would happen when he signed that deal . I don't think I heard anyone say that was a bad signing at the time, a lot of teams wanted him but we just happened to sign him for a couple thousand more. Doesn't look good on us now but it happens, what team doesn't have a bad contract nowadays.

Schenn >> Phaneuf
Are you honestly serious with this "Schenn>> Phanuef" business? I mean come on, Schenn has been great and all but Phanuef goes up against the top lines on a nightly basis at even strength. Phanuef is apart of the shut down tandem and not only that, he produces points. Phanuef is incredibly talented in every facet of the game and with his continued return to form (with better defense now due to his maturity), he is returning to number one D man form. Schenn, right now is a number 3 with potential to be a high quality number two. Phanuefs potential is insane, he has 60+ point, norris potential if he can get it all sorted in his head. Phanuef is better currently and still has a higher ceiling he can reach.

I will laugh when all the people and their lowball offers get tossed out the window when Schenn signs for 6 million a year.

Komi was a UFA. Different circumstances.

$4.25 million for 5 years, what's taking so long. I just did that in 10 seconds.

4.25 over 7 years, 1.25 less than Myers who has an offensive flare, yet more than Staal who plays a similar game but on a longer term.

What are your talking about I said 4.25 because its is 1.25 mill less than Myers which compensates for the difference offensively, but more than Staals contract b/c it will be a longer term? what fight?
