Let's see how he does with two actual top 6 linemates with him.

I'm no apologist, I wish he could have been traded....but what would we get in return? Not much. If Eller were ready then I would have lit the fuse on the rocket out of town myself.

Let's all hope he steps it up and does well...because it helps the team, and increases his trade value for next season to cap minimum teams with low cash flow.

GO GOMEZ GO......I'll buy you an Alaskan crab meat taco if you score 20 goals

We will all know on this guys first shift if his words have any meaning. If he does the old "gomez dash and dump and dash" one more time we will know he hasn't changed one bit. He did it all last year and killed his linemates with it.

I hope Scott Gomez does have bounce back year, just not against my Bruins, he is a lot better hockey player then his stats might lead you to believe.

Nobody despises Gomez, it's just that 8 million he commanded the past two seasons doing nothing and the two good future top defensemen this team traded to obtain the services of Scott Gomez.

Only McDonagh has the potential to become a solid 2nd pairing guy (not top), the rest is whatever.

If Gomez actually produced the past couple of seasons there would be no need for this article.

YES!

Or how about the, let's take a slap shot from 80 feet out on the power play when no one else is in the zone, miss the net, and have the puck come out of their zone move.

Gomez can't possibly be worse than last year. I'm hoping he bounces back to a point where he can be a quality #2 center. I'm not a big fan of cap tracking, but it would be nice if we got a little more bang for the buck. Looking at his past few seasons, I'd be delighted with 60 points.

I like Gomez in interviews, he is one of the few who Habs that imparts some wit ad humour. Most interviews with other players are simply bland and not worth listening to.

As well, I really like when he carries the puck between the blue lines... very entertaining. Now he has to produce once he gets into the zone, not just trun it over.

End of story.

yeah.

I am one of those who do not believe that if we had that extra $7M that we could simply go out there and trade for whomever we wanted, and their team would just give them away. Or that all those awesome 7 foot tall skilled centermen who are UFA's would be lined up for the Habs to sign.

The only thing that a fan can do is make the best of it, or make ourselves sick thinking of his underachieving and cap hit.

The fact that I find his interviews entertaining does not mean I think he is earning his spot on the orster, nor his salary.

I was referring to the situation, not the individuals or athletes.

Never been a fan of Gomez but he does have his good side. Love his comments. He didn't look for excuses, even at the end of last season. He didn't point the finger at anyone else but himself. Must be because the media isn't Russian, right?

I've been thinking how 2007 was our golden year for drafting, but BG traded away McDo. McDo, Subby and Max Pac. In the two first rounds wow!

As much as, as a fan, you want your team to get full value from every player's cap hit, at some point you have to let that go and just look at what the player brings and how you would fill the hole if that player was gone.

As much as Gomez will probably never live up to a 7.3 mil cap hit, we do not have anybody ready to step in and be a true top 6 NHL center. Except for last year which was admittedly a crappy one, Gomez has consistently been a 60-70 point guy with a couple of years higher. On the UFA market the only guy that could bring at least that was Richards and he, from all appearances, had his mind set on NYR, so no sense beating a dead horse, there is no 80 point guy available to us for taht cap room, so we are better off with Gomez at 7.3 for another year than force feed Eller before he is ready and a bunch of cap room with no good options for it.

I'm sure Gainey realised when he made the deal that Gomez would not live up to his cap hit, but he needed a legit frontline center with Plekanec coming off a 39 point season.
