13th forward

We already have 12 forwards under one-way deal. So normally, there is 1 or 2 places available for someone else.

Who do you think has the more chance to make the team ?

Very good Poll

I will say Engqvist, we need a right hand faceoff man, but if White is good enough on draws, then I see Blunden. I also think that Woywitka will make the club right out of camp. JM likes to go with 13 forwards, and 8 D-men.

Awards:
I wrote an article for HabsHQ about three options the Habs could have, within their system, for the 13th forward position. Conboy, Palushaj and Engqvist were the three.

Blunden because of waiver reasons would be my guess. If all things were equal though I would put my money on Engqvist.

Hopefully Trotter if his KHL experience actually did benefit him. That being said, he will face heavy competition from Palushaj and Engqvist.

But do Trotter have a clause to send him back to Latvia if he doesn't make the big team?

Darche. Give his spot to Engqvist. I say this as a fan of Darche Vader, he shouldn't be playing 82 games on a team not tanking for 1st overall. Plus we need a fouth line center and Enqvist fits the bill.

IMO, he's still an effective 3rd liner guy.

Also, he still has some good speed considering his age.

It's between Blunden and Engqvist, pretty sure Blunden is gonna get the Start, i don'r care much, but i've been a fan of Enqgvist since we signed him.

Come on guys, Darche has shown he deserve to be a regular.

My money is on Engqvist, this year's Tom Pyatt.

Engqvist needs to continue working on his all around game, particularly in the faceoff circle, in Hamilton for another year. I expect Blunden, though like other I'd like to bring in Madden, and then have Darche as the 13th forward.

Ideally Ryan White can take that 4th line center job and run with it.

Blunden is not a complete scrub. He can skate and hit and knows where to be on the ice...

As of now it's looking like Engqvist. I can see him being Martin's boy sort of like Pyatt was. We'll see if he's ready for it but I always liked what I saw of him last year (Preseason, in Hamilton, and in Montreal).

If Engqvist makes the team, he's the 4th line center. I'd be shocked if White took that role, Moen and Darche are wingers, and the team really seems to want Desharnais in the top 9 (as do I).

There's always the chance Eller struggles a bit, and Desharnais excels, making him the 3rd line C with AK and Moen. Making a 4th line of Darche-Eller-White ( in which case our 13th forward would be Blunden I guess)

But I think Eller is ready for a big step and a AK-Eller-Desharnais line is going to kick ass.

Darche a guy who was on a 20 goal pace last year IS NOT A #13

I don't know how much more clear that can be made, I still don't get how a guy who is a fit for the 4th line but can step up into almost any role and be productive is still considered a #13 by many. Makes me wonder if they're just brainwashed by HF 2010-11 or if they actually watch the games. Darche played like at least a #12

Why should Darche not be playing 82 games? He was on pace for 16 goals and 35+ points last year with bottom 6 ice time(11:16 a night).

As bottom 6 forwards go he is great value making less than 1 mil per year(700k).

I can see them using Weber as 13th forward, the Habs seem to always do that. DD or white will probably center the 4th line...I don't see them keeping Engqvist to sit in the press box.

Bit weird to see Blunden getting almost twice the votes of Palushaj. High hopes for Blunden I understand, but expectations for Palushaj seem to have plummeted based mainly, as far as I can tell, on his first lousy day of rookie camp.

I'm intrigued by Blunden and I voted for Enqvist as the most likely to get the first shot simply because we have more depth at wing than center, but I think Palushaj's in a very strong position to get called up this year. He may only get to replace Tom Pyatt's minutes, but I think can probably pull that off.

I could not agree more. Darche contributed in every role he was given and a number of players (Pouliot, ie.) played their best with Darche on the line. Much as I love DD, Darche is possibly the right fit with Eller and AK on the third line and he's a no-brainer to make the top 12. His game is simple, reliable and he's a great linemate who seems to settle down those he plays with. He's not a top 6 player, but in the last two years he absolutely shown he can be a valuable regular on a winning team. If he loses a step, that's it, but in the meantime he deserves to be considered top 12 until he shows otherwise. He earned that

If we do keep 23 players(I'm inclined to think it will be 12-8-2 with Weber getting games up front), better off keeping a non prospect(Blunden) to sit in the press box on most nights than a prospect like Palushaj or Engqvist who could use more seasoning...not sure why nobody is grasping that.

I also vote for Blunden. I prefer to have a player like him as 13th forward than a young prospect like Palushaj who will be more effective on the 1st line of the Bulldogs. It's better for his developement and his confidence.
